As usual I'm not experienced enough and could be wrong but,

Last Night Tampa were one up at the Top of the Eighth facing what even I recognised as Atlanta's best batters. I assumed that being the case in would come the saving pitcher, get rid of the top order and either clean up the dross or hand over to another to mop up. Instead out come some other Dope who immediately gave up the drawing run, in the Ninth, to rub salt into the wound came the Closer who promptly done his Job. Am I wrong in what I said should have happened and if so why, also how does one apply for a position of Coach in MLB. Thanks :drink:

1) I will say that I do not know enough to answer your question well

2) I do know that there is a LOT LOT LOT that goes on with managers picking pitchers and sending them out; that is one of the most complicated areas in all of sports. They may be working some guys in pressure situations to see how they handle it, not necessarily for the win. They may be considering heavily the pitch count on guys available in the bullpen and what went on for the relievers and closers in the previous few days... Other stuff I don't even know about. I do know that the art/science of pitchers (starting/middle relievers/relievers/closers) is (or can be anyway,) very, very intricate.

3) You are probably smart enough to manage someone somewhere in the majors! lol...but I'm serious. You just lack experience. First, apply at the KC Royals front office. I'll look up the address....

Young Jackson was in his first relief appearance with the Rays and clearly Maddon wanted to give him a shot at getting out of the bases loaded jam.

And he did, within reason, since A Jones hit the Sac Fly and that was all for the inning.

Rays "closer" right now is longtime bullpen wonk Brian Meadows.

Believe me now and Hear me later when I tell you that changing to him over Jackson would have been no particular upgrade.

Better to let the youngster have a shot.

Barman,
My opinion was in hindsight when they brought in Camp, who appeared the better option under the circumstances.

Tulsa,
The way My views are going in the World Cup I'll probably end up the England Coach as the main talent needs to be that your clueless at Soccer. My finest moment so far was predidting a 0-0 Draw Argentina- Croatia which ended 6-0 and today I predicted 0-0 and a Swedish Win, Germany scored after 4 Minutes.:cryingcry
