FUN STUFF TO LOOK AT!!!!

Under bettors must be wondering what’s up with the St. Louis Cardinals pitching rotation these days because what ever it is, it’s burning up their bankrolls.

The team has allowed six runs or more in 10 of its last 19 games and pushed the over/under to 12-6-1 through that span. It’s a startling trend for a ball club that began the month of June with a 25-25-3 O/U ratio on the season.

It’s gotten even worse for the Cards during the first four games of their current road trip where they’ve submitted 44 runs and 57 hits. Three of those tilts doubled the closing total.

"We`ve got to pitch better, no question about it," Chris Carpenter told reporters after allowing seven runs in seven innings during Friday’s 10-6 loss to the Detroit Tigers. "We haven`t been pitching the way we can.”

Carpenter isn’t the only culprit in the St. Louis rotation. He along with Mark Mulder and Jason Marquis have coughed up a combined 29 earned runs and 33 hits in just 14 1/3 innings while Jeff Suppan has been painfully inconsistent over the past month.

Sidney Ponson’s last two starts (11 earned in 8 2/3 innings) earned him a demotion to the bullpen, although Mulder’s recent placement on the DL due to a shoulder problem has him back in the mix.

“I`m not throwing the ball very well the last couple times I went out there,” he told the St. Louis Post Dispatch. “So I worked on it and changed my mechanics a little bit.”

Mulder’s injury is probably the cause of his struggles, but the rest of the rotation is a bit of a mystery. After all, it’s not like bad pitching is contagious. Not among starting pitchers anyway.

“I think you get that more with a bullpen,” say Covers Expert Ted Sevransky. “There’s more camaraderie among relief pitchers… for the simple fact that they hang out in the bullpen. So (their bad pitching) can rub off on each other. I’m not sure it’s the same with starting pitchers.”

But with St. Louis enduring some embarrassing losses over the past week, including Tuesday`s 20-6 defeat to the Chicago White Sox, Wednesday’s 13-5 loss to the Pale Hose and Friday’s 10-6 decision to Detroit, the starters are now under a microscope.

That kind of attention brings pressure, and perhaps not all of the Cardinals starters can deal with it.

“I think a guy like Mulder could handle that,” Sevransky says. “But a guy like Ponson could definitely be more fragile. And Jeff Suppan and Jason Marquis? Maybe they’re just starting to show their true colors.”

Love the LAD, Boston and SD plays. Detroit looks way too good to be true. Ponson 4-2 lifetime vs Detroit. Trying to stabalize a place in the starting rotation. Best of luck on this play, ACE. I'm gonna be watching the game as a non-play for me. This year has been a tough one, but I'm hoping to turn it around after the Allstar break.:toast:

Because, say 30 days from now it changes and now it is a losing or break even proposition, and everyone else stopped doing it from a different way ... Where's the answer?
