Mo: Wanted to get your thoughts on Philly, why do you like them today?

Saw some good points for Balt in Jmans thread.

Thanks

the os are my team and i know them well. bedard has been great of late and its been a huge lift for the team but also vaulted some expectations into the more unrealistic. Bedard has great stuff and the Phillies do not hit lefties well which is good reason to give the os a look in this evenings matchup. But, you cannot win without run support and the os simply dont hit lefties well and despite losing his last outing vs the yanks, hamels pitched very well. The Orioles have been strugglin a Ton to score vs some very below average pitching and i dont look for them to be able to do much on the offensive end tonight. tejada is now right in the middle of an investigation and since Grimsley came out with some names, tajadas being one of them, tejada has been in a tailspin and batting around .200. even worse is the fact that his fielding has cost the birds as well. the Orioles best hitters have been Patteron and roberts. Roberts is not, at all, a good right handed batter and patterson, a lefty, could struggle vs hamels. With roberts not likely to get on it really takes away some of what fahey has provided in the two hole and thats the ability to move runners over. fahey, another lefty, is not likely to produce much should he be in the lineup tonight. ramon hernandez has been a pleasant surprise with his bat for the better part of the season but he too is cold over the last few weeks. Sammy perlozzo has vowed to play Markakis more against lefties and if he remains true to his word thats another matchup working in the os favore with Cole vs Nick Markakis. Should markakis or fahey sit, we will see conine and/or matos and its impossible to cap a game and figure they will produce vs anyone, much less someone as talented as Cole hamels.
Bedard has a tendecy to nibble a bit which can raise his pitch count and if he cant get thru 7 tonight the Os will be foreced into their pen which has been shaky at best. In the end i think the os bats continue to struggle while bedard comes back to earth a bit and gievs up a few runs before exiting in the 6th.

we can speak more on this game if u like, those are just some quick thoughts in response to your question

thanks Mo

little leary of the phils pen, they've killed me the last 2 days

Although the Phillies pen isn't that great, there is a big difference between the Sox lineup and the O's lineup... good luck mo im with ya on the phils/os under.

flutz and rhodes could each give the birds problems based soley no the fact that they are human beings that throw with their left hand. gordon is a lock down closer and if they need a long man or someone to go moe than an inning i think the addition of methieson to the 25 man roster could prove beneficial to their cause.

Best Of Luck, As Usual, Today !!!

Had White Sox and Bluejays before even looking around; however, I see that I faded your Philadelphia pick. Other than that, SHOW ME THE MONEY !!!

What kind of investigation is Tejada facing?

Not really a shocker that Tejada is involved with the other 90% in baseball that have or do take performance enhancers. Excerpt of the column in todays Washington Post by Jorge Arongure Jr:

"Several team sources said they have noticed Tejada sulking some of late, perhaps stemming from his name being linked to the investigation into an affidavit from former Oriole Jason Grimsley, which appears to link several of his ex-teammates to the use of amphetamines and perhaps other substances. (The names in the affidavit have been redacted.) Since it became public on June 7, Tejada is hitting just .236 (17 for 72).

Less than a year ago, former teammate Rafael Palmeiro, who tested positive last season for steroids, told the House Government Reform Committee in its ensuing perjury investigation that Tejada had given him shots of vitamin B-12 in the locker room. For a time, Tejada went into a slump and his demeanor was noticeably different. He demanded a trade during the offseason but later rescinded his request and has not renewed his request"
