I ask this because in the last 3 weeks I have read a ton of stuff both in fourms and out that tell me people are just tired of it and need a new drug so to speak.

I am wondering if its me. Is poker losing it steam and are all the people who once rushed in now rushing out because its tireing and boring or is it as steady as ever with enough new people to replace the old who may happen to leave?

I played for a few weeks and stopped because I dont trust on-line poker...too many bad beats and too many players that go all in with nothing.

Believe that should be on the low totempole of your concerns.

Yes, the poker engine is losing steam, if that's what you're asking.

This time last year, I would be playing 3-4 hours a day, trying to use it as supplemental income. Then, it got a little boring / I got a little worse (turning me from a profitable player into a breakeven / minimal profit player / Everyone got a little better.

So now, I play 3-4 hours online every month or so.

So yes, I'd say that it is slowing down. I'd start selling shares in Partygaming and stuff like that if you're involved in it.

I started at Paradise Poker in 2000. Quit for a few years and just got back to playing about 6 months ago. So far so good. In fact, I just signed up for WPEX and i'm very excited to start playing Rake Free Poker.

If you play 1 3/6 table 12 hours a week, you'll get back around $500 each month in rakeback.

Yes.

Used to make some nice income with it, but stopped after about 2 years. Too boring.

The gambling fashion of poker and "world series of poker" has lost its touch. I'm burnt out from that perspective. But playing with buddies on the weekends, no.

ring games have become boring to me. I like $50 tournaments usually 6 seaters. I also frequent 5k, 10k, and 20k guaranteeds. They often will fall short of filling and therefore making it positive expectation.

As much as I love poker, I never got into it online. Too fast for me. In a lesser way it's sacrilege being that I feel strongly about fact taht it cannot compete with sitting around a table and playing with real people. In a good group with good conversation and laughs, you can lose money and still have a hell of atime with no regrets. Cant say that about online poker.

That's a really good point. You can have a hell of a lot of fun if you're at the right table.

Games are crappy these days. I have seen many 3/6 games online that play more like 30/60 at the Bellagio. Raise and fold way too much. Most "fish" play no limit now, but its not a game that lends itself to nice steady skills. Its hurting the game overall, no doubt about it in my mind. Boredom is probably coming from being tight games more than anything.

I haven't played in months. I don't know if I can trust it anymore with all the talk of collusion and bots.

You know it TT. Maybe I didn't give it a fair shake online but there is no question that the way to play the game is with a 'social' element involved and the online chat mechanism doesn't cut it IMO.

Wow nice mix of answers. Ensign Lee as well as Living off gambling money really answered the question I couldnt articulate. I think the poker "engine" is losing steam but that does not mean less players just players playing less often. For simplicitys sake I will take the 101 position ans say as long as the money is in the house I have a shot at it. Thats a comfortable Vegas view granted. I am not sure that is good for offshore operations in the big picture.

The Tv stuff I think has been dead awhile and so the main attracter of new blood is losing its steam. At the same time they have developed new ones to keep the attraction new. Is it enough?

In case you all missed the Ensigns warning here it is again as I have been saying the same thing for a least a month now. The offshores are under a
natural economic implosion because there is simply to much and its greatly overvalued at that. I will add sporting bet and a bright red alert for BoS as I am now disturbed by them on a managment 103 level.

A slow down in poker is just as good as a bust. Add greed + operational incompentence and what you have is the bottom dropping out of those three.

Financials are due to start hitting come the end of next month. You will not like what you see I am afraid and I am quite sure BoS already is.

Example....I was seated next to Tom Pniak ($429K in winnings listed on pokerpages) for most of the final day in the IP tourney. I had no idea who he was, but started catching on when he brought up the daily\weekly 500 & 1000 buy in's at the Bellagio.

He's a total class act. He knew that I was in my first big live tourney & was pretty worked up, and he was doing nothing but rooting me on (and doing what he could to get me to relax a bit).

By the time we hit the final table, everyone had a little rooting section of observers. It was pretty cool-too bad I was limping as bad as someone could limp at that point.

I dont see the online poker boom going anywhere anytime soon. People love to gamble - people love to be able to gamble and not leave their own home. As with anything, you have to do so in moderation as it (like everything else) will grow stale with overexposure. Major poker sites continue to put out astounding numbers in terms of player volume and cash volume. Yea some stocks may go down but the industry as a whole is here to stay (unless the government really cracks down)
