TORONTO -- Blue Jays center fielder Vernon Wells left Friday's 8-1 win against Phillies in the fourth inning with a mild left hamstring injury.
Toronto manager John Gibbons said the club won't know until Saturday whether or not Wells will miss any games.

"He'll be OK," Gibbons said. "It's a mild strain or a cramp in the hamstring. We'll know more [on Saturday]."

After grounding out to second base to end the fourth inning, Wells hunched over in obvious discomfort before walking back to the dugout. In the fifth, outfielder Reed Johnson took over in center for Wells, who was 1-for-3 with a run scored against Philadelphia.

Losing Wells for any amount of time would be a significant blow for Toronto. The two-time American League Gold Glove Award winner is hitting .315 with 20 home runs, 62 RBIs and 180 total bases in 76 games for the Blue Jays.

Toronto is already without right fielder Alex Rios, who has been hospitalized for the last two days with a left leg infection. Both outfielders are candidates to play for the AL team in the upcoming All-Star Game.
