Ok I just got home from the U.S Women's Open ( I live in Newport, RI) and I'm going back to watch the play off tomorrow. I have Sorenstam to win for $500 at 9/4 from Saturday night and she is now at 1/2. When is the best time to place a wager on Hurst currently available at 2/1 or better to best hedge my current bet ? As of right now I'm planning on waiting until Sorenstam takes an early lead and pound Hurst at 4/1, 5/1.

Do I bet a little right now at 2/1 ?

Sorenstam will crush her but if you're nervous go ahead.
I totally agree. Yeah, once in a while she throws a total meltdown, but in the long run she is money in the bank a whopping majrity of the time.

I would take a chance and wait, as you're leaning towards..don't fancy hedging a 2-1 w/ another 2-1...cuts into profit way too much.

Then again, you stand to clear $1,125...minus 250(break-even / true hedge) leaves $875 still...

When a hedge would look real attractive to me is if either:

1. that was a bet on some game, then a reverse second half/period hedge parlayed to some other game today would open up a lot more possibilities / large profit...OR

2. there was a possibility to reverse-tease # of strokes, for any chance at collecting both bets.

She wins such a huge % of those situations, that one leaves money on the table by hedging her.

NOW, if your bet was much larger than normal / advisable-- then it could call for some protection...otherwise, i'd stay put.

I haven't made any bets on this open, and had my mind made up on Sorenstam, but when I saw she was 2:1(ridiculous) I paused. Both have played good golf, but Annika's was on the first day. Hurst has 2 rounds under par(69). If yesterday were todays playoff, Hurst would have won by 2 strokes. Not bad value on Hurst, I'll make Sorenstam beat me to lose. Taking Hurst +196 and the +1.5. I don't think money gets put on Annika at 2:1 when they both played equal, so I would hedge at +200.

Honestly it is awesome. I came here for the summer in '94 right out of high school to experience the country and watch the WC and never went back to Ireland. The biggest negative I consistently hear is that there is no industry here and so not many jobs outside of the tourism business. Well I worked my way up working in the restaurants etc but now I make a nice living in real estate and so I'm happy. Beautiful town, great bar/restaurant scene, beaches, cliff walks, world class golf (I'm playing Carnegie Abbey at 1:30), little or no crime and really GREAT people. I really like living here and would recommend a visit to antone, anytime of the year.

WNO - winters down there aren't terrible, it's a pretty fun spot year round...mid may through mid september is a pretty fair estimate of nice weather, although it can still be reasonably chilly some years in mid may...

what channel is the cow and sorenstam on?

Winters are great. Cold but a nice break from the mayhem. Weather is good May through the end of September but then we have skiing/ snowboarding in NH to keep us busy. I wouldn't (personal opinion) live anywhere else, I have been to every corner of this great country, but I have my own reasons for that.

newport would be a great spot WNO, i'd also strongly suggest Nantucket for a trip...a little bit of yuppie stuff in some areas of nantucket, and a little bit pricy depending on what kind of cash you have....but it's an awesome spot IMO

Yeah, beautiful. I used to hang out summers at the simulcast place...before the web took off.
