Gonna start something new, since my baseball season is pretty much shot to hell anyway. I will be tracking and betting on nothing but good to great pitchers getting + money, regardless of the opponent/match up

feel free to add your thoughts

Monday's picks to click:

STL (Reyes) +102 (yep, he's already considered a very good pitcher in my book)

Tampa Bay (Kazmir) +152

LA Angels +111 (see Reyes comment)

San Fran (Lowry) +109

The first day of this new experiement of mine worked well, going 3-1 (+2.72 units). Going to count this as one unit each just to keep it a s simple.

I may also play up to -110 if I feel one side has a definate "edge' in the pitching matchup, while I may also not play a + number on a given pitcher if I feel the pitching matchup advantage lies on the chalk pitcher (kind of a "use your own discretion type deal)

Yeah, I'm basically playing with "what's left" in my accounts until I reload for football (20-30 a game)

Took the 4th off, back tonight with a couple

STL +110 (Suppan) Has been below average this season, but still a guy who can put together good outings. His opponent James has been good in a couple outings, but youngster's are iffy at this point of their careers)

LA Angels +122 (Colon)... Has been hurt this year, which may (along with being out of shape) has hurt him in 2006. Third start back from layoff, works for horses, works for me too.

Colon was as good as Suppan was bad last night... 1-1 (+.22)

Overall 4-2 (+2.96)

Thursday's experiment:

Cleveland +101 (Lee) The Unit is no longer domiannt, so taking a good pitcher in Lee as a slight home doggie.

Chicago Cubs +162 (Maddux) Cubs stink and Maddux has struggled mightily after a hot April, but +162 on the 1st ballot HOF is mighty tasty

Those two Thursaday night plays didn't work out too well. Took last night off, got 5 for Saturday:

currently 4-4 (+0.96)

Boston -103 (Beckett)... feel Beckett is the better pitcher here

Baltimore -103 (Bedard).. Giving the better pitcher nod to Bedard over Sowers

Tampa Bay -101 (Kazmir).. You guys should know by now how I feel about Kazmir

Cincy +124 (Harang).. Harang just seems to get better each time I see him pitch, use to fade the crap out of him

Arizona -101 (Webb).. Jennings no slough, but Webb is one of the best in the NL

Ego,

Back on July 3rd you had StL (Reyes) @ +101. Today you can get him @ +128. Do you no longer consider him a very good pitcher?

Hey Hal, I didn't play him yesterday because I felt Hou had the pitching advantage w/Clemens (I kinda tweaked "my rules' in post #3 of this thread) Kind of a "use your own discretion type deal. Just showing what I'm playing, but if someone wants to try this experiement, I figure they can use their own judgement (basically looking at betting good pitchers without laying chalk)

For example, if someone else is doing the experiement, they may feel that Contreras has an advantage over Schilling today, but I like Schilling and don't see much of an edge in this situation:

GL Today :toast:

ytd 7-6 (+1.95)

Boston +112 (Schilling)

Pittsburgh +149 (Duke)

LA Angels +112 (E Santana)

updated record: 8-8 (+1.07)

Oakland (Zito) +164... An All-Star pitcher getting +164 with a nearly 1.50 ERA advantage over his opponent (Beckett)

ChiSox +117 (Contreras)... Another All-Star hurler facing a very average Unit these days

Atlanta +116 (Hudson)... Hudson has been up and down, mostly down of late but when he's on, there's not many in the game better

doing this as an experiement, as starting pitching is a big part of MLB and easier to cap than bullpens, defense, ect.. this experiment is obviously not for everybody SSI (could be good fade material if ppl choose to go that way)

10-14 (-2.14)

these plays have been dog crap the last couple days... a few for Monday

Seattle (Washburn) +159 Washburn a good, but by no means a great pitcher, but nice value imo against Wang who I don't think much of (a use your discretion play)

San Diego (Williams) -101 Woody a good vet pitcher, big advantage over Hamels and I'll jump at even money esp. at home

Cleveland (Westbrook) -116 Slight chalk, but getting Westbrook at this price vs. a guy making his MLB debut represents value to me
