Did they move the fences back or make more foul territory there in Coors Field? Their scores seem way lower than they normally were over recent years, and the weather hasn't been cold. The totals are down to 9 and 10 now, instead of 12.5 or 13. Are there any reasons other than players not on roids anymore, and pitchers who have learned how to throw up there?

They actually have a respectable pitching staff now and a decent pen now which has a lot to do with it.

Agree with you, royalfan...but don't underestimate the humidor effect.

Aren't HRs around the league at a low pace, generally speaking?

...and they use a humidor to store the baseballs before the game.

Not sure if there is a scientific connnection or not...but like royalfan said, their pitching staff has improved a lot. Jennings, Cook, Fogg, etc are all pitchers that tend to have success because of the sinker balls = ground balls.

The humidor has been in place for years. I think the pitching has a lot more to do with it than anything else. Without looking, I also suspect that the Rockies offensive performance is down this year.

In addition to the pitching, I was watching one night, when Helton just smoked one to right. Everyone thought it was out and it was caught. He couldn't believe it. It does make me wonder a bit what is going on. The ball simply does not seem to carry there like it used to, especially to right field.

But totals and results haven't really come down in the other NL parks. We're seeing 9's now in Dodger stadium (less foul ground), and there are frequently 10 or more in NYM, Phil, Cinn,AZ. The humidor doesn't seem to be affecting those totals. Totals of 9 in July at Coors Field are weird.

Run production has dropped substantially because of how they are storing the balls. Marginal improvements in pitching will not bring totals down from 14 to 9 a game. They started tinkering with ball storage several years ago there, and this dropped totals from 14 to 12. Now they must be tinkering some more as it seems that totals are in sync with the rest of the league.

It is pretty clear something is different. The ball simply isn't carrying there like it used to.

the humidor is only used at Coors Field. I wish i was the guy in control for storing the baseballs --$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

what happens when its 95 degrees out, does the "humidor still have any affect, i would think the baseball would dry out quicker"

ohhh by the way guess which team has given up the least amount of HOME-RUNS

This is an interesting topic. I wish someone really knew and could post an in depth write up on the subject. Part of the problem used to be with the thin are, the pitcher couldn't get the ball to break or cut as much. You would think this would still be a major problem. I am very curious as to what the true reason is for this.

Right...that's it. I didn't know it was just at Coor's Field. I think you're absolutely right. Thanks, man.
