He is my view on this:

-both lefties with huge power --- push

-Ortiz much more of a pull hitter with uppercut swing, Howard more opposite field home run hitter with very level swing --- Huge Advantage Ortiz

-Ortiz has experience in derby, howard has none -- advantage ortiz

-Ortiz has been red hot, howard has been ice cold - advantage ortiz

Howard isnt even a big hiiter in batting practice like McGwire , Sosa, etc he just works on hitting line drives. Howard has no pedigree for this event at all.

I love Howard and hope he wins the whole thing, but I just don't see how this match is almost a pickem. When I cant think of one advantage howard has.

Thoughts?

ONE BIG advantage HOWARD may have is ENDURANCE over BIG PAPI.

I think the line is right on personally........maybe a TAD to low.

I love Papi, but I hope he dosent' get past the first round. Gotta save those bombs for the 2nd half of the season.

Look what happened to Abreau last year.

Have hit this event very big in the past, especially having Abreu and Garret Anderson as huge longshots pretty big. This event is all about rythmic swings. Usually left handers have those, not right hand guys. This year, I do not care for the prices unfortunately. Lance Berkman would be my favorite, but not at that price. Not a good value. Will look into matchups closer in the AM.

One more reason to like ANYONE over Howard is, he got scratched from todays lineup, supposedly to rest.....He's got 3 days of rest ahead of him, why rest him today. I think he might have a little something bothering him.

When the announcement came out that Howard was out today I thought about researching the whole thing but nah, maybe someone here with more time wants to do it though.

I don't think there is more to it than it appears in this case. He is struggling of late, and hits lefties poorly usually and a decent leftie, Duke pitching for the Pirates. I think that is all there is to it.

Why give him the day off though? He's still their best hitter and he does have a "break" coming up

Papi never has a good showing in these things. If it wasn't for the new HR carry over rule, it would have been worse.

Congrats on the hit
