No, FIFA needs to find a better way

Elminate a player from the field every 5 minutes in overtime until there is a goal.

Not a fair vote - first come up with an alternative to vote for.

Considering this is soccer we are talking about, the winner should be decided in the kitchen via a bake-off.

I agree there should be more overtimes, but there would have to be some sort of limit. Any more playing time and everyone would just be so tired that there wouldn't be any skill involved in the winning goal anyway.

Why not see who can do the best flop and let America vote by text on who wins.

Penalty kicks to decide it is bogus.

I dont think so either but whats another fair way to end it?
You have almost 2 hours of play time without any resolution with sometimes a 0-0 score how do you plan to break the deadlock other than PK's?

Big field to be playing minutes after minutes, this could go on forever since not many goals are scored in soccer. The players would be tired as hell.

I would think even the purists in Europe and around the world would rather see a real goal win the cup.

Wrigley & Journeyman have good ideas.

I posted on the other thread on this topic that they could maybe do a variation of college foots - each team gets alternating cycles near goal line, with maybe 6 players on offense, 4 on defense. When one team gets a goal ahead, and the other cycles out, they win.

I'm not a big fan of "sucker", but a worldwide sport should have a less insulting OT in their championship game than the shit we witnessed.

maybe,

If there are going to do pks, they should have player strike the ball further away. It is way too close, at least give the golaie a chance and make the shot more exciting.

Besides that, the goals need to be bigger for more scores.

Today's ending was weak.

2 other ideals
-----------------------
How about they do the PK before the game this way both teams know who will be the winner if it ends in a tie.

Or

Use the old NASL shootout rule this gives the goalie a chance to cut down the shooters angle.

1.The head referee shall choose the goal to use for the shoot-out and shall identify a mark 35 yards out from the goal line.

2.A coin toss shall be held and the team winning the toss shall have the choice of going first or second. Teams will alternate players. Each coach will identify the order that the team's players will use to take their initial shots.

3.Each player will go one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper starting from the 35-yard mark identified by the head referee. The goalkeeper can come off the goal line as soon as the player touches the ball.

4.The player has 5 seconds to shoot the ball. There is no follow-up on the kick.

5.If the score remains tied after each team's first five players have taken their turn, a sudden-victory situation will be used, wherein if one team scores and the other team does not score, the match is ended without more shots being taken.

6.All eligible players on a team must take their initial shot before any eligible player can take a subsequent shot.

No! I'd prefer that no World Cup game be decided by penalty kicks. I would rather see a sudden death winning goal. Believe the players would play more to win in overtime then they do knowing the game is timed at two 15 minutes periods and could go to penalty kicks. The players should win on the field. If conditioning comes into play, that is all part of the game. If one team gets more fatigued then the other, they are better conditioned and if they score the winning goal because of it, they deserve the win. Just my opinion.

My personal preference is they return to the (very) old system whereby they replay the game in case of a draw, but guess it won't work in the current era of TV rights
