Hopefully you guys can steer me in the right direction. I am taking the wife and child to San Diego next week for a week and am looking for a place to go play golf. I know there are several great courses in the area and was going to try and play Torrey Pines South Course. I heard yesterday that Torrey Pines has been getting aerated alot to get ready for The Open and may not be in great shape.

Any courses you guys would recommend there for me. I am a 10 handicap if that help. Thanks in advance for your help.

My clubs live in the Lake at Chula Vista Muni.

I've played everywhere in the County. You can't go wrong.

You weon't go wrong with Torrey, but you might want to try the Barona course. Get in some gambling with your golf. Can even stay there also.

You have the I-15 courses with great "value" courses that would 2-3X price if were anywhere else in the country.

Pala Mesa
The Vineyards
Fallbrook
Eagle Crest
Meadowlake

Then you have the American Golf Corp, home of the 5 hour round because they want profit and will shove out back to bak to back 5 balls.

Riverwalk
Coronado
Clairmont Mesa- not the name but the street I forget the name.

South County courses

Chula Vista-
Sandiego CC- which is in Chula Vista and there is about 3 other good munis whos names I forget
Tijauan CC- hidden gem with greta value comes with caddy.

More hidden gems- but comes with 45 min drive from downtown area

Mt Woodson
Steel Canyon- 27 target holes.
Ramona
Singing Hills

High end courses- The 200 +$ courses

La Costa
Aviara
Enicintis Ranch

If you want a golf host- caddy that can get you on free or discount any where in the area call Bob 858 272 2018

Railbird thanks for the info, it gives me plenty to look at. If you were spending a week in Escondido and could only play one course, regardless of cost, which would it be?

Also, wheres the nearest poker room to Escondido. After a few days with my wifes family, Im gonna need to get the hell out of there for a while.

Rail has but together a very nice list here...I'd have to say any course in San Diego is a 5hour play, some as he stated are more.

If you are in escondido, the I-15 courses mentioned above are relatively close. They are decent courses. Both Mt. Woodson and Barona are not far from Escondido and are much nicer. I have not played it, but I've heard Barona is exceptional.

TVW...call the TP Hilton and ask for Toren..he sets up t-times at Torrey for guests...tell him one of his gambling degenerate friends and a big fan of his band said that he would give a truthful lowdown on the conditions at Torrey. I used to play there frequently and you don't want to waste your money if they are aerating the course, unless of course you want to see one of the most beautiful areas in the united states from a golfers perspective. He might (might) be able to hook you up with a T-time, but I can't promise anything.

If you are a non-smoker Oceans 11 in Oceanside is the stone cold nuts! Live games galore and no smoking about half a mile from the beach should you need to cool off after a bad beat. That 9-18 game with a kill they have there is guaranteed action. Been going there for about a decade now, best standalone card room in the country IMO, especially in summer when you get the lively vacationers in the pots. Its about a 20-30 minute drive from Escondido along route 78.

If you smoke there are a few tribal rooms around. Pechanga up in Temecula is probably the best choice. That is about a 30 minute drive up I-15.

Viejas, Barona and Sycuan all have plenty of action and are all non-smoking.

For Golf ...

I always enjoyed Carlton Oaks, near Santee or out on Mission Gorge somewhere.
