When you talk about the first half of the 2006 season it has to start with the Detroit Tigers.
Detroit is playing so well if they go .500 the rest of the way they will win 96 games and are on pace to win 104 games....Jim Leyland has made a huge difference IMO.
The Tigers are winning with balance, top to bottom, they have 5 players on pace to hit over 25 home runs...and 7 on pace to drive in over 80 RBI.
I'm not so sure the offense will continue to thrive at this pace, they don't jump out at you when you look at the lineup top to bottom.
The pitching is what is most impressive!
3.46 TEAM ERA in 2006!!!
Zach Miner has filled in very nicely replacing injured Mike Maroth , that has been key...meanwhile the rest of the starters have done excellent as well.
Kenny Rogers and Justin Verlander are both on pace to win 20, Robertson and Bonderman both with 8 wins have been remarkably consistent as well...Essentially the Tigers have 6 outsstanding starting pitchers in 2006!
Todd Jones has blown just 3 saves but still appears to be the biggest question mark, allowing batters a .302 avg and his ERA is over 6.
Overall Detroit has too much going for them for it all to collapse, I don't believe they're quite where the White Sox were last year but they should, be in the Central race to the end....just too much going right for them to fall apart.
