Not that he's so strong, he gets all of his body into it. It's all hips.

Is David Wright a Future Hall of Famer?

Wright, now 29 years old, has a long way to go before he is to be considered alongside MLB's legendary third basemen like Brooks Robinson and Mike Schmidt, but he has put up close to hall of fame-caliber numbers through the first nine seasons of his career.

Similar Stats To Kansas City Royals Legend

I see him as a George Brett type, as he typically tallies close to the same amount of RBIs as runs scored in a given season. Much like Brett, I also see Wright finishing up his career at somewhere close to the 300-homer mark.

Brett had 704 RBIs and 762 runs scored before his 30th birthday. Wright tallied 765 RBIs and scored 746 runs at close to the same age as the former Royals slugger.

In a given season, Brett averaged 95 runs, 189 hits, 19 homers, 96 RBIs and a .305 batting average, while Wright averages 103 runs, 185 hits, 26 homers, 106 RBIs and a .303 batting average.

Defensively, Brett notched just one Gold Glove in his entire career and Wright already has two.

Brett played until age 40 and didn't have a significant drop in performance in his later years. Even in his 20th and 21st seasons, he tallied 55 runs or more and at least 61 RBIs.

Stat Compiler vs Decade of Dominance

To get into the hall, you have to either have at least ten seasons of absolute dominance in the game or become a stat compiler. I see Wright as the latter type.

Wright is just in his ninth season and he doesn't have any absolutely dominating years under his belt, so his ticket to the hall of fame is going to depend on hanging around in the game and becoming a stat-compiler who sticks around long enough to notch key hall of fame-caliber stats.

The main question that remains is just how long Wright will be able to stay in his prime and put up high-level numbers. We also don't know many years more years he'll continue to play for and what effect Father Time will have on his body.

Playing until age 40?

I would estimate that 1,400 runs scored, 1,400 RBIs, a .300 career average and a solid glove, would be enough to propel Wright into the hall. That said, he needs approximately seven to eight more seasons of putting up similar numbers to what he posted in the first nine years of his MLB career.

That may be asking a lot, but time will tell whether he is able to sustain his current pace. He seems to work hard to keep his body in top-notch condition and he's not injury-prone, so that should help him stay in the pro ranks until at least his late-30s.

It probably also helps his case that he will likely spend his entire career with the New York Mets, and he is a nice guy who always shows class and professionalism.

Adding a World Series title to his resume before all is said and done also wouldn't hurt his chances.
