First the Cup decided on penalty kicks now this , what a shame.

Zidane is and was phenomenal in this tourney, had he nailed that header this would all be a mute point.

I think he deserved it and I am tired of people blaming him for the lose yesterday

He did deserve it, just a shame it ended the way it did...so many were complaining about the players taking dives, and then for it to end this way .

I really enjoyed the latter part of the tourney...Zidane is incredible.

Italian goalie deserved it more-- he kept them in so many games, not just the Final.........

He deserved the Golden Ball-for lifetime achievement if not his performance in this WC.

They were apparently harassing the hell out of him the entire game, and he snapped. Soccer is a long game....I can see how the BS could eventually get to you-especially under all the pressure of playing the final game of your career & in the WC finals. If you push hard enough, you're quite often going to end up getting what you wanted, and they did.

At least he didn't stomp on someone's balls, or destroy a career making his point. Tainted his exit, but on the other hand-maybe that's the way he wanted to go out.

There's something about his "statement" that I want to like.

Zidane was the player of the tournament. He may well be the best player I have ever seen... Comparable only with Maradona.

The Cup may have been his best tournament. He was by far the best player.

His head butt was ridiculous. That being said, if the Italian made a comment that was racist or mentioned terrorism, I fully agree with what Zidane did and only wish he had beaten his ass. There is no place for racism or terrorism in our world. IF the comment was simply a F off... Zidane was out of place.

if you watch the full video, you'll see the gay italian was busy twisting Zidane nipple about a minute before the headbutt.

I'm all for fair play, but men dont grab other men's nipples...

Ironic he went out using a header ...

The guy was a phenomenal with the ball, can't say it enough-he was unstoppable....this was not Zidane's first incident though....definitley seemed to be the type who could snap.

exactly. guy was a great player but he was dirty too. at least three of his 12 red cards were for similar action. don't feel sorry for him at all and in my opinion he didn't deserve to win the mvp.

He's always been a hot head with a short fuse. Competetive as hell, and just can't turn it off I guess.

Yeah, neither side comes out smelling like roses-- FIFA needs to come down on the Italians.

Yes teams give number 10 to there best player. 9 and 10 are the "star" numbers sorta speak. Zidane was chosen as the winner of the award before the head butt just to add that piece of info.

I figured it was already voted on , but why vote for that before the end of the tournament?

Stan Stamenkovic wore #10.

Why is #10 the best player?

In the old days, they played 4 backs, 3 midfielders and 3 forwards. The central midfielder was #7 (a historically popular number) and the two other midfielders were #6 and #8. The three forwards were the right wing, the center and the left wing, and they were numbered #9, #10 and #11.

Since the CENTER wore #10 and was the primary goal-scorer, he got all the accolades and #10 became the number of choice.

I remember a story once where in the 1950s, England played Romania. The Romanians didn't wear numbers corresponding to their positions, so the English had a hard time figuring who they had to cover defensively and let in an early goal with the first few minutes.

Word is Materazzi crossed the line with some of his remarks...telling Zidane that he hopes him and his mother die(she's in the hospital, gravely ill, death looming). He also called Zidane's father a traitor to Algeria(forget the exact term that was used, but it meant an Algerian who fought for France against the Algeria). Also referred to Zidane's sister as a whore/prostitute.

Zidane will explain what happened later this week.
