I love all kinds of gambling books (esppically horse racing books) I am a regular at GBC, they actually know me when I call, I have between 20-30 gambling books and that number is growing every week.

Lately I have been thinking about throwing my thoughts on paper. Not a how to book but more of a daily diary. Not so much to try and sell but most likely for myself to read later one day. I imagine it could help my bottom line and maybe renew some confidence while on a losing streak or so.

Has anyone did this? Do you think it would be interesting/fun to do for yourself or does anyone here do it now? Would you read some other gamblers daily diary? Has anyone read the old book "The National Football Lottery" by Larry Merchant, something similar to that.

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts or ideas about something like this and the best way to attack it? Like said it wouldn't be a how to book, as I feel I am a LONG way from being at that stage. But more of a diary or so. The daily personal ups and downs of a gambler.

I just think since I have been here at the Rx I have won(around 50 units, not alot but I have won) and putting your thoughts down on paper makes you see things more clearly and can help your botom line in the long run.

(don't worry it wouldn't be about the rx and all the questions I have asked. Though that might be a good book titled "Conversations at a gambling forum:lolBIG: " and it would probably be the size of a bible. Heck I know alot of people have asked me in the past "what are you writing a book or something.")

I have no prior real writing expierence or interests in writing, but if someone on here wrote something similar I would buy it and read it in a heartbeat.

hmm. Interesting question. I bet fishhead could write a few books.

Actually, I know a poster here who wrote a book but I forget whom. It's about baseball handicapping.

I think when you write gambling books as long as you are not doing a real lot of story telling, I bet you could write one Ice. I mean your posts are articulate enough. Just be expressive. And you could watch finding forrester for inspiration. ;)

Thanks Rob. Like I said I would first and foremost do it for myself.

I wish I would have kept a diary (boy that sounds gay, lets go with memiors) of my life since I have been 20 or so (35 now). Just to see what I was thinking at that time of my life. Think it would have pretty cool to look back on.

Also my memory sucks and would be a cool way to remember back on things in your life.

Fishhead,
any books in the future. If so, sign me up I would buy one!!!

If you just title a book "Earn a living at gambling" you could talk about how much you like beer for 30 pages and it would probably sell a million copys.

I think I will write a book about gambling posting forums and all the interesting personalitys and drama I have encountered/witnessed over the years. However, this concept isn't 100% original. The Red Sox Forum (Sosh) has a book out about themselves.

You could probably just make a diary using many of your posts/questions, as well as some of the best answers received.

make sure you also leave a paper trail of all your illegal gambling activities. That way the Feds won't have to turn the house inside out when they show up.

Whats holding you back Fishhead? In fact I thought you might add a behind the counter story or two in my sportsbook stories from the 90's thread. I think you are the only other one in the society today whom could tell such stories and you are a VOG as well. You can jump in and add a few if you like.

Fish, more of a how to book or just stories of your past? What kind of format would you use?

Maybe I'll write a book about how a lot of gamblers are on steroids, and that is the reason why they are hitting at bigger % in the last 6 years, as opposed to in the past.

All I need now is a gambler that has hit 65% from 2001 to 2005, up from only 55% of all the years before that. And then target him as the main focus of this steroid scandal.

I have bought e-books in the past. Seems like an idea.

What kind of idea/format are you going to write about?

I have more than 1 in mind.

I'd like to combine advice on traditional & sports investing...+ managing personal finances.

I also have some different ideas re weight control & physical fitness-- there's lots of bad / conflicting advice out there.

I also wish to do a running diary/book on different horse handicapping contests & something like: 7 days in the life of a gambler...covering all bets in many sports.... First i need to brng in enough income to hire at least one full-time transcribing assistant & co-handicapper bet-inputter.

I have a couple of well-recommended self-publish links-- one can be as involved/disinvolved in the process as one wants, with corresponding price levels which seem very reasonable.
Let me see if i can ferret them out.

But I wish to do the book in a different manner: say buyers of the book get included in the price one/two shares in a hedge fund...the one Mark Cuban had in mind-- except that it will be geared to charitable purposes.

After that comes the book & position paper re the future of this country & the direction it needs to take.

PS i can't find the two links i had, but the following are very helpful. You may have been there already-- you sound like you get around and are an optimal researcher.

No it means Vegas Old Guard. The youngest of the VOG's came on to the scene in Vegas no later than 86 and would have worked in or closely with (most times both) the old sportsbooks of lore back in the day.

Note not all VOG's worked in Vegas per say.
