I managed a gas station for a little over 4 years, while going to college. What was our second biggest cash cow, gas being 1st. It was the Lotto. I would watch not one, not two, not three, but countless people any given friday or end of each month blow paycheck after paycheck in my store on the lotto.......I hate and I mean hate the fact that this Virginia butthead takes this moral stand...hmmmm does virginia have the lotto?.....answer YES.....hmmmm does virginia have Offsite horse tracks and lots of em?.....answer, yes. Does virginia allow their own internet horse track betting site?.......hhhhmmmm....YES. Really hacks me off to see this card get played.

I agree! Rep. Goodlatte is from the Lynchburg area of Virgina. This is Jerry Falwell country. In case you don't know WHO he is. He is a Baptist preacher who owns/operates Liberty University located there. Falwell is a Bible thumper of the first order. Anything and I mean ANYTHING that has to do with gambling he opposes. They couldn't fight the horse industry and get this bill through the House... (they say States Rights.......hummm laughable since it was allways the stopper in the past). Anyway Falwell has a HUGH following in that part of the state and elsewhere! My guess ---he and Goodlatte are VERY good friends!

Anyone who votes Republican better realize that this is the kind of bullshit that they are supporting.

This is what the right wing is all about, and as far as I'm concerned, they can stick their bibles up their asses and stay the hell away from my rights.

Couldn't agree more.

That's at the root of the problems with politics today, IMO. It seems that no one truly believes in anything anymore. Distract the masses or vocal minority through transparent "issues". Pay no attention to their ineptitude or failure to truly take any meaningful action towards things that are important to us, or address the problems we face as a nation. Better to "comfort" us by knowing that some cat in FLA won't be betting the Bucs this weekend.(Yeah, right) To hell with the fact that he just spent half his paycheck on a 13 million to 1 shot on lotto. He's just helping "education", right.

These people line their pockets at the expense of many while spewing "morality". What's so moral about that? They are pandering to the people that freak out if their kid sees a breast or hear the F word. As a parent, I pray to God that I've taught my kids the "ability" to deal with such pressing and troublesome "issues". It's ironic that those espousing the idea of completely sheltering our youth from these "evils" through their moral agenda are acting completely contrary to the idea of personal responsibility. A better leason is learned if you piss away your rent money by gambling than playing the victim of some evil influence.
