Before the All-Star break, the Cardinals looked to beef up their rotation by trading for Jeff Weaver, who was horrible for the Angels. Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said the first half of the season has been a ``character building'' one for his team. He said the team has dealt with a lot of ups and downs including injuries to key players. ``But if you watch us play we look the same,'' he said. ``Nobody's drooping, everybody's hustling. If you keep doing that pretty soon the wind turns.'' The Dodgers also have had their share of injuries, with Kenny Lofton and Jeff Kent nicked up and J.D. Drew always seemingly a play away from going on the DL. Nomar Garciaparra, however, has stayed healthy and is battling for the NL batting title. Brad Penny has been stellar on the mound for L.A. and is a solid bet should he pitch in this series.
