I was talking about this just a few days ago on here, Manny has the chance to put up some of the games best all time numbers

Not many people would believe he's a career .314 hitter on top of everything else.

Great read. Full of stats, facts and sound arguement. Thanks for sharing.

My only guess why Mannny recieves all the rediiculous criticism is he is tinkering with the very sacred Boston lore. If he finishes out his contract years here strong, you can put him in the same breath as Orr, Williams, Bird, Cousy and Rusell, etc. And that isn't exactly easy for everyone to accept.

This is simply one of the most awesome right handed hitters to ever play the game! The dwell on what he did wrong stuff is so tired, especially when he has done so much that barely anyone else has done or will ever do.

Well said Rob-

Manny has always been one of my favorite players...I can remember his first game in NYC where he homered twice and the hometown Manny fans out in leftfield were all going bonkers.

He is without question the best right handed batter I have seen, when you consider the amount of time and consistency.... yes there have been some who've had great 4-5 year runs but so far no one else has lasted this long in many many years.

Just look how many times his teams have been in post season-95,96,97,98,99, 03,04,05...

20 post season homers, he will more than likely end up first in that category too.

He's never won an MVP award, pretty amazing, and never finished higher than 3rd.

He could end up around Willie Mays territory (660 HRs) and never hit more than 45 in one season, he is the ultimate mark of consistency IMO.

Most of all he wll be known for all those runs driven in, he should make it over the 2000 mark, that is rare territory!

I doubt he can make it to 3000 hits though, his career OBP is .409

Well he may be considered underapprecaited but certainly not underpaid, Manny makes 22 million per season.

Good post JMAN

Likewise, as stated numerous times on this forum, MANNY has been one of my all-time favorite players to watch hit...........been saying for years now that are we are seeing a bonafide legendary hitter.

Following his career as closely as I have, I was even shocked at this stat...........

5TH ALL-TIME in HOME RUNS per AT-BAT!!

WOW!

VERY IMPRESSIVE considering all of his other offensive greatness such as a lifetime .314 hitter.

Kinda says it all right there.............think about it.

A .314 lifetime RIGHT-handed hitter that is 5TH ALL-TIME in HOMERS per AT-BAT!!

WOW!!!

My kid got dressed up as Manny for Halloween a few years back and people were dragging him into their homes for photo shoots and extra candy. Most of these people were Yankee fans! All the tight asses make fun of Manny and disrespect his game, but deep down everyone knows this guy is a great player.

Manny is a great hitter, I dont think that is ever under attack, its his antics which get him the reputation he has.

Why do 98% of fans hate Barry Bonds? Cause he cheated.

Why do people have this impression of Manny, because he just doesnt care about many things, like running the bases, which he does like a Victoria Secret model on the runway, the only thing missing is the thong.

I like Manny but give me the Cleveland Indians' Manny over the one now. He was hungry back then and plays with a "I don't care attitude" at times now. That Cleveland team had a chance to be something special.

I'd take Albert Belle in his Prime over Manny in his ....

Belle best 4 years in row (prime)

177 HR 448 R 542 RBI .307 AVG

Manny best 4 years in row

168 HR 424 R 557 RBI .322 AVG

The big difference is Manny has 9 years like that and Belle had 5

Bell also only played 12 years , He had to retire early do to a bad hip which forced him out way before his time ... If Belle didnt suffer that career ending injury ... ..... Well its a big IF.......

My only knock on Manny ( besides his lackluster fielding ) is the fact that he strikes out waaaay tooo much. In 15 seasons , Manny has struck out more than 100 times on Ten occasions , while only recording over 100+ walks in 1 season ....

Belle didnt get many walks either , but also didnt strikeout as much ....

After reviewing the stats < I change my previous statement , i would take Manny , buts its supa close !!

What is it with this guy and his love affair with cheaters?

Bonds = roids & HGH
Belle = corked bats

Hey asshole , reread my last post .... I said after reviewing both players stats < I would take manny ...

But then again , as we have learned Crunch99 can't add too well, Its only normal to assume his reading skills are remedial aswell ....

Orr, Williams, Bird, Cousy and Rusell,

Unless he brings another World Series trophy to Boston Manny will never be mentioned in that kind of company by lifelong, die hard, love all Boston teams to the death fans. Just won't happen without another WS win. He will be another Jim Rice, Dave Cowens, Carl Yaztremski (even that is a stretch), Cam Neeley, Freddie Lynn, John Hannah, John Havlecheck, Ray Bourque, players who will always be remembered with fondness but never the stuff dreams are made of like the guys in the Williams' group. In fact Tom Brady has a better shot to join the Ted Williams group of Boston immortals than does Manny or any current Red Sox, Celtic, or Bruin.
