I caught a segment of the O'Rilley Factor tonight and the subject was Lance Armstrong. Bill had on the author who wrote Lance Armstrong's War. At some point Armstrong went to an "insurance company" and said if he wins the Tour France 6 times he wants $5,000,000. I have no idea what the premium was, but apparently the "insurance company" accepted the policy.

After he won, the "insurance company" refused to pay and a court battle ensued. The "insurance company" alleged Armstrong was doping and therefore the contract between the two parties was void. The "insurance company" had some doctor testify that Armstrong was using EOP. I think that's whay they called it.

I don't know any of the details of the contract, but in the end a three judge panel (I believe outside the US) ruled the "insurance company" to pay Lance Armstrong and tacked on something like $2,500,000 in punitive fines.

Nice hit Lance.

SCA Promotions, a Dallas company that offered Armstrong a $US5 million ($A6.6 million) bonus if he could win a record-breaking sixth consecutive Tour de France in 2004.

The company later reneged on its offer, citing allegations in England and Europe that Armstrong had used performance-enhancing drugs. Armstrong sued, and the case went to arbitration last year.

The case was settled before any action by the presiding three-judge panel, with SCA Promotions agreeing in February to pay the contested $5-million fee, plus interest and attorney costs.

There were not only allegations, but proofs, which weren't accepted because of the RULES, not because of any doubt in them. A person should be blind not to see it. Cycling has been worse than baseball for more than 10 years now.

Doping controversy aside, why the fuck is this guy hosting the ESPYS? Not that I watch anyway, but shouldn't all hosts of awards shows be required to possess at least an adequate ability to make people laugh?

Proofs? Do tell, Zee. I seem to remember a French newspaper printing "proofs" last year...proofs which were later shown to be untrue!

Armstrong hosting the ESPY'd aside, why the fuck is the ESPY show being shown on tape this Sunday night when we all know the results? I guess we couldn't pre-empt that exciting WNBA all-star game last night! The ESPY show has been shown live every year since its inception; now granted, it's pretty lame live, but tape delayed?

I'm not going to be looking for links doug, you have google, use. I read a lot about it at the time.
If you believe the ruling of an administrative body over the French national anti doping agency and the World Anti Doping Agency, it's your choice. The SIX samples that tested positive were refused because the tests were against rules and regulations. Also, it wasn't any french paper, it was L'Equipe. AFAIK, this is THE reference for sports journalism in the world and only the Gazzetta comes close.
I used to like Armstrong too. Doesn't make me blind.

EPO, erythropoietin, the hormone that stimulates red blood cell production which therefore increases oxygen carrying capacity and the ability of the body to perform work without fatigue.

From Wikipedia: "Erythropoietin is available as a therapeutic agent produced by recombinant DNA technology in mammalian cell culture. It is used in treating anemia resulting from chronic renal failure or from cancer chemotherapy. Its use is also believed to be common as a blood doping agent in endurance sports such as bicycle racing, triathlons and marathon running."

It's impossible to believe that a clean athlete could not only win, but absolutely dominate, in a sport in which performance enhancing drugs are so widespread.

The concept behind Performance Coverage is simple: offer a professional athlete a cash bonus for an outstanding performance. When the athlete meets the stated mark, SCA funds the bonus in full and promptly. Stretch Your Payroll Budget
For a predetermined fee, SCA assumes the financial risk for the program. This allows you to both protect and stretch your budget before the season starts.

I'm wondering if this sick narcissist can 'feel' shame. Shall we call him the Hollow Man

down goes an American hero. And FINALLY those that have vehemently defended him can STFU. You were defending a FRAUD.
