I caught a segment of the O'Rilley Factor tonight and the subject was Lance Armstrong. Bill had on the author who wrote Lance Armstrong's War. At some point Armstrong went to an "insurance company" and said if he wins the Tour France 6 times he wants $5,000,000. I have no idea what the premium was, but apparently the "insurance company" accepted the policy.
After he won, the "insurance company" refused to pay and a court battle ensued. The "insurance company" alleged Armstrong was doping and therefore the contract between the two parties was void. The "insurance company" had some doctor testify that Armstrong was using EOP. I think that's whay they called it.
I don't know any of the details of the contract, but in the end a three judge panel (I believe outside the US) ruled the "insurance company" to pay Lance Armstrong and tacked on something like $2,500,000 in punitive fines.
Nice hit Lance.
