I had 2 of my best friends and their families over for dinner. Nothing, fancy, quesadillas, watermelon, quacamole, shrimp coctail, veggie tray...summer "finger foods" for us & the kids. Drank iced tea & coolaid. Had great conversations, then headed out for softball game. Drank beer in the parking lot before and after the game.

There are so many times in our lives where we don't have perspective on what's going on...tonight was not one of those. I enjoyed the hell out of tonight. It was an honor to treat my friends to dinner, even if it was a crappy little throw-together meal. It was an honor to take the softball frield with my friends and drink beer in the parking lot afterward.

I want to live to be 120, but tonight was one of those nights where I felt like I was savoring life, like it wasn't passing me by, like I "got it" for a brief period. God, I love summer! I'm 36, and I'm sure I'm slower and less athletic than I was at 18, but when I play ball I feel 18 again and I appreciate life.

This isn't a commercial for playing softball, but rather a call to arms to appreciate what you have and what you can still do. It's easy to sit in front of a computer and create an artificial world where you control everything, but if you can still do any kind of physical activity, celebrate it, Man!

I'll bet any 80 year old out there would trade a 70% capping record with a "youthful" body any time. We want what the rich old geezers have, and they want what we have and don't appreciate. I'm drunk any going to bed now, I hope someone out there takes these words to heart.

You're a rich man El Iquana. Not only do you have the opportunity to share such a great time with friends and family but you can appreciate it too.

Many times I smell the smoke of a BBQ only to wish I was holding one myself surrounded by family and friends. Like they say at Miller Beer, "It doesn't get any better than this."

Great post El Iguana. I also had a great night last night. I coached my sons 6 year old all star baseball team. Last night was the championship game. To see the smiles on these kids faces as they run around the bases or as they chase the ball that just rolled under their legs is priceless. These kids play because they love running around and playing a fun game with their friends. Youth at its finest. I was so proud of how far these kids have come in the last month that it will be something I never forget.

Thanks for chiming in, Fellas. I'm really enjoying this summer and a break from capping until football starts. It's nice we've been able to stop and smell the roses.
