I dont think this bill gets to the senate and I dont think we'll see it again in the House. I think over the next 3-5 years, the government will try to find a way to regulate and tax online gaming.

The Republicans brought this up in the House in order to make the religious conservatives happy and to get votes.

This has happened multiple times, but for some reason, this is the first time, people have worried about this bill actually becoming law. This is good. This bill has been brought up by every major television station, every major newspaper, etc. The general public is not happy with the republicans barring freedoms. Right now, there is an email going around facebook and colleges telling kids to vote democrat if they like poker. College kids dont often vote, but trust me they will vote to keep gambling, alcohol, random hookups, etc legal.

I suspect the republicans lose a ton of power over the next elections and this is the last we hear of this.

Keep spreading the news. Nothing would stick it to them more than a huge democrat win.

Me too.

I dont think they ever expected this type of negative kickback.

In the past, it has just made the religious rights people happy, but this time with a real chance to pass, it has hit the mainstream media and people like freedom. There are still more people who believe in freedom than bible thumpers.

They're not gonna ban internet gambling I think they're only doing all this so they can some how tax it down the line if they ban online gambling they're just opening things for organized crime to take it over.

Why dont the states get on the ball let the online casino's and sportsbooks operate out of the states regulate everything and then tax profits from the casinos

Because people are not going to play and get taxed when the option to not be taxed exists.

Their chance was 10 years ago when no one knew which sites were legit.

Too late now.

The government should just tell people which sites are financially secure and be done with it.

For instance the government tells you which countries are safe, but they dont arrest you if you visit Libya.

Not entirely true. I would love to be able to walk into the Sun or Foxwoods and make a bet, get cash right after the game. The Internet is great, but in person would be even better. I think the Vegas books are doing just fine.

amen Sean...I would be happy with a start that we do not see it even make the senate floor this year ...that would be a good blow to the death of it and maybe they will consider doing that 1.5 yr study on it that about 10 Repub's supported they do before they ban it

...LETS all keep praying IT WON"T EVEN HIT THE SENATE FLOOR!

some snips from some articles I have read

Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.), who lobbied to remove exemptions for horse racing and state lotteries, said the bill is unfair because it shields those industries while banning sports betting, casino games and card games, according to the AP.

Her sentiments were echoed by the Poker Players Alliance. "They call it a prohibition. It's really Congress picking winners and losers," the AP quoted Michael Bolcerek, president of the Poker Players Alliance as saying.

The bill's future in the Senate is uncertain, because it is not considered a high priority.

and another

A recent Wall Street Journal poll found 85 percent of U.S. citizens polled were against a congressional ban on online gambling. and Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) called the statements of Leach and the bill's co-author, Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), disingenuous and "hypocrisy.''

85% opposed and its NOT a high priority at the senate...good news

Your going to see a great compromise when the US legalizes online betting.

You the player will get the opportunity to bet 100% legal, with no grey area involed.

But the downside is, they are going to make betting at places like pinnacle very illegal. Maybe even a felony!!!!!!

Because once the US becomes involved, Pinnacle will now become there competition.

I was thinking the same thing. It seems a bit selfish to root for international chaos, but if it happens the bill will almost certainly never make it out this year.
