Can DH be MVP?

Some folks in New England rate David Ortiz a shoo-in to win the AL MVP award. However, one can easily build a case that two other designated hitters are having stronger seasons. Moreover, it doesn’t appear to bode well for Ortiz that there has never been a full-time DH to win this coveted honor.

If Steve Nash can be an MVP in basketball and not play defense, why can't a DH?

My opinion is no. A DH should not be able to win an MVP (and neither should an NBA player who only makes his team better on one end of the floor).

Please note, ORTIZ has played games at 1B this season.

The guy should have won the award last season.

What a travesty.

Oritz will not win the MVP this season. He'll have to hit 70 and don't get me started with Steve Nash who are you Bill Simmions

Its great isn't it, MANNY being shunned again.

Everywhere you turn.........BIG PAPI, ORTIZ, BIG PAPI, ORTIZ.

A lot of casual baseball fans need to start admiring MANNY as much as they do BIG PAPI.

Come on Fish...the casual fans are the ones that voted him into the All-Star Game.

I think a better thing to say would be Manny needs to start respecting the game and the fans that allow him to earn a ridiculous amount of money playing a child's game.

He does!

Although I agree, he should have at least made an appearance at the AS GAME..........NO QUESTION ABOUT IT!

Baseball certainly need's more of his kind.:pucking:

If all the All-Stars would've followed in his footstep's(by choosing not to attend the Mid- Summer Claasic),the World Series would have been held at a neutral site come this October!

Now that's a travesty!

can a pitcher be MVP? They don't bat (AL) and pitch in only 20% of the games.

I would say no...that is why the Cy Young Award is so prestigious. It is basically the MVP Award for pitchers.

That's a joke. Boston will forever have a complex with the Yankees. '95 since the last division title, if I'm not mistaken? Red Sox fans need to get over themselves. They've won ONE World Series in our lifetime. One. The real joke is comparing the Yankees to the Red Sox at all.

Boston fans will always be jealous of New York's rings.

As for this debate, a DH should absolutely be allowed to win MVP. If they have THAT much of an effect on the team, then why not? Barry Bonds was, for all intents and purposes, a DH the past few years when he was winning MVP after MVP. The guy didn't win it because of what he did in the field(close to nothing). He won it because of his bat.

I've never heard the word "jealous" used before, in the same sentence as Yankee Fans.

Is that scientifically possible? :think2:
