It looks like I really screwed up. I was searching the internet for something that would tell me how to increase my upload capability (it's limited to 40kb). I found this thing titled "How to increase your upload/download/ratio in torrent trackers". I guess I didn't fully understand what this does (it wasn't what I was looking for). Anyway, I followed it and painstakingly got it to the point where I enter a URL. After I entered it I was immediately banned for being a cheater. Apparently this is specified in the site rules, which I never read. As I've found out, they have zero tolerance when this is done (I'd say it's less than zero).

I tried to write to the staff at the address the invite was sent from, but that gets rejected as unknown address. I went to the online help section and wrote a quick synopsis of what happened and asked if there was a way to be forgiven. Within seconds 10 users started calling me "cheater" and I was booted and banned from online help.

Obviously, I'm extremely disappointed at this turn of events. It looks like I'm banned for life and I realize now that I should've known better, but I really had little idea of what I was doing at the time. Regardless, I hope this doesn't effect your status negatively and I stress that I never had any ill intentions. Thanks for all you've done.

That sucks. Seems they can really be nazi's on that site. They used to be much worse actually. Don't worry about it from my end. If anything, they'll limit my invites, but that doesn't bother me.

I just wish there was some avenue for appeal. I didn't understand the sofware I was running. I think they think that if you run it, there is no mistaking what you are doing. After reviewing the instructions I followed, the purpose of it was to take advantage of a bug in bittorrent that changes your upload stats (bumps them up without actually uploading). Had I understood that (which admittedly I should have), I never would have run the damn thing.

Like I said I was looking for a way to increase my upload rate, not increase my upload stats. I had figured out how to upload and seed a torrent. I had done 3 of them and my share rating was improving, but the upload rate was limited. I figured there had to be a way to increase that rate and now I'm completely stunned at what transpired and just venting here.

Update -- I found another site along the lines of OiNK and was able to join since registration was open and an invite was unnecessary. It seems much, much larger than OiNK. It's called Demonoid (I see Boxslayer32 recommended it in another thread). In addition to music, there are several other categories (Movies, TV, Books, Games, etc)

A CD I uploaded at OiNK was leeched twice over a two day period. I created a new torrent of the same CD and uploaded it to demonoid last night. It's been grabbed by 39 users in the 9 hours it's been available.

The only disappointing thing, for me, about demonoid, is that everyone seems to be mp3 obsessed. I believe live music should be in lossless format so that the track transitions are seamless. It's a little more work and it takes a lot longer to download and you have to convert the downloaded files to WAV, but I think it's worth it. Almost all of the Pearl Jam shows (and other live albums) on demonoid are only available in mp3, which means there are going to be small gaps between tracks.

Yeah OiNK I think is definitely watching out for their own...ANYTHING that seems EVEN REMOTELY suspect....they go nuts about it
I don't see much recourse....

Keep us posted in this thread how Demonoid is.....I think OiNK is "THE" place to be for STRICTLY MUSIC.....They seem to have it all, in all formats....but variety is good

Registration was open late last night. If it's still open, I suggest you sign up for an account now and you can check it out at your convenience. So far, I'm enjoying it. I'm uploading a lossless PJ show and several folks are encouraging me to do more (I may be causing a mini fued between the lossless and lossy loyalists). The site has primarily mp3 for music, but has much more activity than OiNK overall (lots of users jumping in on torrents).

Update -

First of all, Demonoid registration is still open this weekend. ZZZSpeedster, you can get in now if you haven't already done so. I think it's an excellent compliment to OiNK, although there's probably a lot of overlap for music. I definitely recommend the site and they are not the internet equivalent of the "Soup Nazi" that OiNK is ("No OiNK for you!").

Anyway, when I got onto OiNK a couple of weeks ago, I had never uploaded a torrent before (not even at dimeadozen). I realized I needed to know how to do this in order the have a decent ratio and got it figured out. In the 1 week that I've been at Demonoid, I've uploaded several torrents and my share rating is >5 (12 GB/2.4 GB).

So last night I put up another great torrent and I get a PM from someone in Europe who loves what I'm doing and they extend to me an invite to OiNK. I accept and give tham a different email address than I gave WharfRat a couple of weeks ago. I'm not certain of this, but I've found information that suggests that OiNK does not ban IP addresses and that if you get an invite (and have been banned), all you have to do is use a different email address and username and you will be accepted as a brand new user. Hopefully that is the case. I''l find out soon enough.
