Cheaper Seats

Prices continue to drift downward for some of Las Vegas' pricier shows.

Cirque du Soleil's "KA" at MGM Grand, "Zumanity" at New York New York and the just-debuted "Love" at the Mirage all are now offering a limited number of $69 seats.

Add in a decent $82 price for the cheap seats at "Phantom of the Opera" at Venetian and the best-deal $49.50 seats at Mandalay Bay's "Mamma Mia!," and you can see the trend.

More Zumanity

Through Sept. 3, a Sensual Summer Nights special is available for "Zumanity" at New York-New York.

For $69 dollars, the package includes premium orchestra seating (normally priced at $99), plus complimentary appetizer from the Eroticafe and complimentary Zumanitini (the trademark martini).

It's a good show package worth about a 50 percent savings from the retail cost.

Anyone hear about the new Cirque du Soleit's Beatles themed show? Sounds good, but probably pricey since its new.

There won't be any time for shows anyways (never is). Too much partying to be done.

Mac King - Harrah's - Tues.-Sat - $7.99/$21.95

The Mac King Comedy Magic afternoon show at Harrah’s is the best-value entertainment option in town. Collect a voucher from the coupon booth in the Carnaval Court outside, readily available around show time, then go up to the third floor showroom. You’ll pay a total of $18.76 for two, which includes a drink. You get 70 minutes of laughs, tricks, and even a shock or two along the way. This is a must-see entry on any Las Vegas itinerary.

This i right next door at Harrah's and fits the bill as cheap but good and it's in the daytime.

(This show was reviewed in the May 2001 LVA. Some of the information contained in the review may now be inaccurate.)

“Mac King is a God.”
This testimonial, printed on the show’s tickets, takes on tremendous weight when you see that the opinion is attributed to the ultra-clever magic duo of Penn & Teller. (P&T have never been particularly prone to dispensing kind words about others in the trade; see LVA 1/00.) Indeed, penny for penny, this may be the best show in Las Vegas.
The show’s name, while not overly catchy, describes it perfectly: a one-man show combining magic and comedy. Both are executed brilliantly. In fact, we’re so confident that a high percentage who attend will come away happy (including kids; they are prominent in the audience), we’ll devote the remainder of this review to the particulars of the deal.
Even after a price increase last month, MK tickets still go at a very reasonable rack price of $16.45; this includes tax but no drinks, which are $5 per in the showroom. Rest assured that you’re not a pigeon if you pay this full price, despite the fact that you’ll see plenty of others with comp passes. You can get a comp too, as long as you’re not already a member of Harrah’s Total Rewards slot club. New sign-ups are currently given two free tickets to the show (and possibly more if you ask). You aren’t considered “new” if you’re already in the system after joining at one of the other Harrah’s properties (including the Rio), so try to show up with at least one Harrah’s virgin in your party.
We were told that tickets are also distributed “occasionally and by no set schedule” in the Carnaval Court, outside on the casino’s south end. Be aware that these free tickets (as well as those issued by the slot club) aren’t quite free; you’re required to purchase one drink. The tab comes to $5.95 after tax, and they ding you for it even before you enter the showroom at the cash register outside.
Showroom positioning is also an issue. If you get a comped ticket and show up late, you’re headed for the back (don’t come too late or you’re likely to get shut out completely). You’ll be okay if you wind up there, but due to the amount of close-up work in the show, it’s better to be closer to the stage. There are two ways to enhance your seating potential. One is to buy your ticket; several seats near the front are reserved for full-pricers. The other is to show up very early, maybe an hour before showtime. And as a final failsafe, it’s maitre d’ seating, which means you can always resort to whipping out a fin if you aren’t where you want to be.

You will be too busy getting your drink on. Tink will be singing "open arms" to you as you puke all over the ladies.

Mystere in T.I. is the cheapest for a Cirque show and is really good. I think the prices are $60.

Dude, speaking of which, remind me to tell you the story from earlier this summer when I got obliterated with some coworkers and a boss, went to a bar that night with a few of 'em that happened to have a Journey cover band performing...

A cautionary tale for all my prospective employers.

Since Journey is touring without Steve Perry, does that make them a "cover band" too. I say yes.

Journey was my 1st concert-and it was a LONG F'ING time ago!!! Why bother seeing the shell of the hasbeens at this point?

As someone is not at all into Vegas style shows, I highly recommend seeing the Blue Man Group.....It's well worth the $75-125 (especially if you've never seen them before).

(If you happen to partake in :bong: or maybe a couple mushrooms, I'd highly recommend indulging beforehand :103631605 )
