We all know Congressmen read the news daily and watch it on tv for signs. Do you think this man's arrest will make it easier for them harder for them or have no effect at all on the House's recent bill concerning internet gambling?
Just asking the question--don't throw rocks please.

No effect on internet gambling bill.

The most telling part of the indictment is the RICO charges "The racketeering conspiracy alleges that the defendants agreed to conduct an enterprise through a pattern of racketeering acts, including repeated mail fraud, wire fraud, operation of an illegal gambling business and money laundering"

I believe the Wire Act charges are somewhat incidental and the main thrust is to get them on fraud and racketeering. These are the charges that allow the Feds to seek forfeiture of $4.5 billion.

It is also significant that "In conjunction with the indictment, the United States has filed a civil complaint in federal court to obtain an order requiring BetonSports PLC to stop taking sports bets from the United States, and to return money held in wagering accounts to account holders in the United States.", although I don't see how the US has jurisdiction.

Do you guys think the US might be a "TESTING" to see if they actually get away with this so they can prosecute other companies or owners in the future? And how can they order a company that they have no jurisdiction over to stop taking action from US clients?

the shareholder will file a class action suit for their lost money

they will have no alternative but to stop taking bets from the usa or they will have to pay every shareholder for every lost dollar

plus they will kill themselves in legal fees

The Rx isn't helping by supporting BOS.

Agreed, but I thought BoS owners in some way owned this website. Hey, I'm getting "along in years " as they say.

What I want to know as I'm certain all the rest of us would also like to know is: This man. How is HE different from Calvin Ayre? Call me stupid, but I think it has to do with something other than online betting.
I'm looking for a clear answer on that before deciding anything else. But with the nature of US laws and knowing that lawyers LOVE the confusion, I seriously doubt we hear the "rest of the story " any time REAL soon. Hope it's more than simply the gaming charges. If NOT...Americans need to STAND up for their Freedom!

How is the US going to stop them from taking bets from the US?

The US is not possibly dumb enough to say, stop taking bets and we give you all bail... They would stop, bail, and then bail as they say and then start again...
