Are they going to pass the savings on to the customers like Pinnacle does with reduced vig? I doubt it. They have steadily declined the last 2 years to become a pretty useless Book.

Exactly. The Wire Act specifically prohibits phone wagering, but internet wagering is still a grey area (presumably because of jurisdiction issues surrounding 'where does the transaction take place.')

They should do live audio/video chat.

And web conference betting: the bet takers should wear nice cheerleader outfits.

My thoughts also. There is an element of savings, but they are most definitely steering clear of the wire act.

Yup. Plus the internet wasn't even around in the 1960's. :modemman:

They've been leaning in this direction for the past few years.

I could be wrong, but this is what I read from some websites talking about this....

The law against gambling online might say,
"It's a telephone line so technically it's illegal."

But those for gambling online might say,
"But when the law was made, they never intended it to be considered the internet, cause it was never invented when the wire act was written. Plus the fact that these signals are going back and forth from usa and foreign jurisdiction doesn't make anything concrete enough to say legal or illegal."

So that's why this bill going to the senate is to make the law much clearer to lawyers(and others) that it is all types of gambling on the internet. (well, except for horseys and lotterys)

Where is this notice posted? I still have an account with them and can find nothing on their web site about it. They still list their phone numbers for bets.

Sportsbooks hate phone wagers.

10 years ago, they needed them because their sites software sucked and they couldnt have $10000 bets going off post kick off (Hence low limits)

10 years ago, often a game would stay up until the game ended online. Now software automatically adjusts lines.

Some people got used to calling in bets. Books prefer no one does now.

Given the opportunity to change calls to internet now, many books will jump at it. They can quote the wire act and that might be an incentive, but downsizing employees now that the software is much better is a much bigger one.

Wire act has nothing to do with this, imo.

They are trying to cut costs. Call centers cost a lot of money to staff and operate.

Any book that I rely on must have a call center. I prefer to place my bets on the internet, but that isn't always possible. Can't tell you how many times I've been at the in-laws on a Saturday morning, where they are still on dial-up and their pc takes like 20 minutes to start up, and I have been forced to phone in bets. Additionally, I have probably placed tons of wagers on my way into stadiums for friends.

Bad decision by WWTS, if you ask me.
