They don't really need to name one for quite some time. No international matches are planned for some time that I am aware of and qualifying is almost 2 years from even its earliest stages. Klinsman has been the obvious speculation and seems likely to me. I just can't see them taking some MLS coach. Whoever it is I would love to see someone who targets improvements on the defensive side. Without a definitive choice in goal and still gaping holes on the defense that has to be the focus for the next 4 years.

Klinsmann seems to be the obvious choice, but I wouldn't be surprised if the US went after another big name like Scolari or maybe even Hiddink.

I heard about Klinsmann, maybe there is a reason because he left the GER team.

He will not fit what you WB correctly sad ( USA need to adjust D ). He is an offensive coach, too offensive. Can't forget when he fight with Trapattoni accusing of being too scared. Trap was scared in some occasions but Klinsmann is too much in the other way. I think Wanchope still saying thanks Jurgen for these "holes" in the opening game ...

Personally one of my favourite that are actually "free" and that will fit for you is argentinian Ricardo Lavolpe. Very underrated coach, MEX have played "wise" and tough since he took over. He is not just a motivator, he is a coach that knows how to prepare a matchup. MEX beat Brazil in the gold cup and outmatched that taxidriver of Peckerman a month ago even if they lost and being the worst squad.

Scolari will still coach Portugal and Hiddink will coach Russia.

I hope you take a great coach.

The next major competition will be the Gold Cup, to be played on June 2007.

It would be nice to call the Gold Cup a major competition, but it really is a joke. That is a huge edge European teams get over teams on this side of the Atlantic. They have the top notch competition at the Euro championships plus real qualifying battles for the Euro and then the WC. Major contenders face real challenges. While over on this side of the pond our regional championships are a joke. No one sends a real team. The only time the US or Brazil or Argentina put the best squad on the field at once is the WC. We all can write it down in ink, Brazil, Argentina, US, and Mexico will be in South Africa. The competition is just not going to knock them out. It would be nice in the Euro years if we had an equally serious competition with each country bringing a real squad. Without it Brazil and Argentina will continue to bow out of most WCs well before their talent should and Mexico and the US will continue to have a tough time getting to the next level.
