OK guys, first post. Maybe I'll get lucky the first time...that's how it's supposed to work in craps, right? Anyhow, I've got one for today:
Boston o9.5: The Red Sox are starting this kid Gabbard in his MLB debut. The thing is, he didn't even do that well in Pawtucket, going 1-3 with a 4.97 ERA in five starts. His last success was in Double-A Portland, but that's a long way from the majors. So what we've got here is a team in desperate straits, promoting a guy who's clearly not ready, because they have no other options now that Wakefield bit the dust.
Facing him, we've got Felix Hernandez, with a so-so record and a 4.89 ERA. Nevertheless, he's Seattle's best shot at taking a game in this series, considering that tomorrow the Sox will start Lester, who's been 5-0 lights-out since he was called up. Nobody wants to get swept, and that gives the Mariners a little extra motivation. Add in the atypically hot, humid weather in Seattle this weekend, and you've got all the makings of a classic slugfest.
