J-Man the Tigers are for real. That's funny I was just looing at that. Minny is on the March. They got 2 of the top 5 starters in the American League. Ney York or Boston is screwed. They all better make a move soon with a trade.

the Twins really need another bat to get them over the top...Even if they do make a strong rtun, someone is going to be left out.

Chi NYY Bos Det Minny- 2 of the 5 will be OUT.

It seems like a short time ago Chicago was also up 10 on them, now look...

I think Detroit will also be tested , the thing is Minnesota has been on such a torrid pace (just to catch up), they will have a real hard time maintaining this pace....the A's do this every year then fade in late August..... could be a similar scenario.

It was absurd how Cleveland collapsed in the final week in '05...people forget how close they came to overtaking the eventual champs...It was Bos and NYY who were suppose to battle for the last spot, than the Indians decided to take the final week off!

Absolutely amazing, 5 of the best 6 or 7 teams in baseball right there (depending on where you put the Cards) and 2 will be sitting at home. I think if the Pirates and Royals switched divisions the Royals would be around .435 and the Pirates would be around .270

whoever deals for Abreu should get the 'idiot general manager' award...have you guys heard his demands? Simply rediculous.

If the Twins due deal for Abreu, then that means they're responsible for the rest of his contract AND to pick up the option at the end of his contract for $16mill/season.

W/ the market prices dropped significantly since Abreu inititially signed that contract...ANY team would be idiotic to deal for him & bhave to pick up that option. A superior player to Abreu like Tejada is making $12mill season. Nobody that is 'questionable' to make the Playoffs would over spend a good $6mill/season for the next few years for Abreu.

Especially w/ the Twins...a team that is financially strapped...have contracts of Santana/Liriano to worry about in the future...and are timid to swallow ANY contract..even a nominal contract like Rondell White.

Wouldn't make any sense whatsoever

I'm sticking to my guns here -- Detroit takes this division, Chicago fades.
Despite all the experts declaring the Yanx out of it last week, I say they and Boston some how end up in again. Bos-NYY-Det-Angels in.

Radke, Baker and Silva?

I think they need a another starter...although they have a great pen, can't see them continuing this with two pitchers .

they already have santana long term, and will secure mauer and morneau with long term deals in the offseason. with the new ballpark we'll be able to add 20-30 million in payroll.

Honestly- if you were the GM of the Twins...w/ a straight face, would you seriously trade for Abreu and Pay him roughly $40 million through 2008 season (he is due $23.5 thru 2007...and is demanding the $16 mill option on 2008 to be picked up)....then he'll waive his no trade clause.

* Then factor in the fact...you're more likely than not to make the Playoffs.

* Have a bunch of young players due to get offerd long term contracts in the next few years.

* Current market conditions show that a player like Tejada (better than Abreu) makes $12mill/season.

* Also have to trade propsects.

etc etc etc

I knowthe fans dont cut the checks to the players & really dont have to worry about it...but goddamn, acquiring Abreu would make zero sense form a business perspective. Especially for a guy that has a reputation for lax play.

Pat Gillick would literally hump his desk, if if he can find a team that wold be willing to take Abreu & his silly demands.

...and Santana's deal is only through 2008...its as long term as Abreus...if they do trade for Abreu, he would roughly make $4 mill/season more than Santana (basically the best pitcher in the league).

and that doesnt include...guys like Morneau, Mauer, Liriano...all who make <$400K/season....all due for long term contracts

w/ Nathan already making big money...Hunter $12mill through 2007...etc.

If the Twins can make that salary god bless them.

Just doesnt make much sense to me...I'm a Yankees fan, and will seriously be pissed if the Yanks decide to add Abreu. His contract demands are too expensive...even for the Yankees, imo
