Papelbon is too young to qualify, his exposure is way too small. If he does this 2-3 years in a row i'll buy into it.

Gagne would have been a no-brainer if he hadn't been injured.

Mariano Rivera maybe. People don't realize how good he's been. ERA just a hair over 2, only walked 9 all year in 50+ innings. Still going strong at 36 years old.

If we're talking about this season I'd go with Rivera or Papelbon for sure.

Hey, gtc08, you need to post here more often because you are a smart guy!!! Very concise and precise post....and very true, I might add.

Yes, Joseph Nathan is the one whose hands I would put my life.

OK....who would place their life on any thing like a closer in one game ever?

But, if you look at this question with more structure...if you had to place your life in a current closer's hands today whom would that be? That is how I looked at the thread.

But, no...I wouldn't place my life in Joe Nathan's hands. If I had to though, I would rather him than any other closer out there today.

Best closers this year so far:

Papelbon
Rivera
Nathan
Hoffman
Ryan

I would have to say Nathan, Ryan, and Papelbon are the best this year.

Nathan - 1 blown save all year.
Papelbon - 50 IP and 3 ER's.
Ryan - 48 IP 6 ER's

If I had to choose my closer - I would go with Papelbon this year.
