Rivera gave up a grand slam and the Sox came from way behind to beat the Yankees in Fenway in the regular season....Was it Trot Nixon, I cannot reemember who it was ?
That HR ignited a Red Sox team that was dead in the water...From that point on that Boston team never quit on anything.
I don't think you could go wrong with either one, Rivera has played for a winner much longer than Eck did...plus Eckersley did not start closing til age 33.
If Eckersley started his career as a closer he would have put that save record out there on the same field with Cy Young's 511 wins.
