Not much to have it up and running.

I think you could do it for under $10,000.

Poker, you'd need no bank.

Sports/Casino, you'd need a bank behind you.

Some countries require licenses costing 6-7 figures. Other countries require nothing.

Then there's marketing and that is where you need a lot of money.

How about software costs and functionality.

A buddy of mine was in a group trying to do it, and their poker software had too many issues, and never really got off the ground. By the time that it was ready, they had missed the boat.

And an online casino?

thanks.

I think that all you would need would be some marketing budget and the ability to have a good, trustworthy software as you will be making money off the rake of each pot. After a while you might have some money for freeroll tourneys and guaranteed money tourneys.

Good luck

It is illegal. It is the same as running a poker room in your house.

If you want to run a poker room online, you have to go offshore and then face the same legal battles as everyone else. Is it legal? Is it not? Does the wire act cover it? Etc...

If you were serious about starting a poker room, you had a unique idea as to how to market it, and you had some money, you would partner with someone who is already established. The key would be having the unique market angle.

I think a great marketing angle would be to target colleges in the following manner - set up a site like collegegaming.com . Then offer comps to players - free spring break trips down to the island - have really hot girls there. The rest is history. Somehow I dont think the DOJ would look favorably on a poker site going directly at college kids, but if you're gonna move offshore anyways...

Aren't a number of US based professional poker players invested in online poker sites?

I once was offered to start an online sportsbook for 50,000 including software.

Did not go for it.
