Had been using one for the last couple of days to make small deposits to try out different poker rooms. Got blocked today when I tried to use it again & got a phone call from the ccard company asking me all these questions. I told them it was for an internet sports company. She said no it wasnt it was for internet gambling which is against federal laws (to use a ccard) and we have the website right here that you deposited money to. I asked her for the website and she said we are not allowed to give it. I know it has gotten more difficult to use ccards for this but I have never had anything like this happen before (usually use Western Union)...kind of wigged me out a bit. Years back (3-4) I would just say I authorized the transaction & I would be ok. Not now! ANything like this happen to u guys recently?

I think some credit card companies lost some money when internet gambling first started. I thought I read somewhere that an individual racked up a bunch of debt on his card by gambling. Then took the credit card company to court saying it is a gambling debt and therefore unenforceable. I think the court agreed.

Why don't you start using Neteller and avoid this hassle (for now)?

If you have a Visa card, you can deposit with Neteller, but there is a 3.9% charge which I feel is worth it. Or like someone said, you can buy a debit card at the same place you send your WU. They have one card that is reloadable and they put your name on it. It cost 9.95 for the first load up to 2500, and $2 for each load there after. The other gift card, as they're called, costs 4.95 and you can put as much as 300 on it, but it's not reloadable. These cards are always accepted at all gambling sites.

Good idea, but I don't think you can request a withdrawal with these cards. Many books like to refund the card first prior to offering any other withdrawal option.

I think the 3.9% is only if you need the funds right away. Otherwise your deposit takes 3-5 business days and is free. I am waiting on a deposit right now.

3 days ago I tried to use my Visa to make a deposit in Neteller and it was declined.Within 2 minutes I got a call from them saying they wont let me deposit into a netteller account because they consider neteller a site used for gambling.I dont know how they knew I was doing it for that reason but I said Okay.I will just have to use a bank account to fund it.

Go with Neteller & get the debit card. WU is expensive & CC's are blacklisted at probably 90%+ of books.

If only Neteller was an option in Maryland !!!

Neteller OK in 49 states.

Kind of a shame they call MD the 'Free State'.

Neteller charges 3.9% when you deposit with a Visa card...they don't take MC yet. You're talking about a electronic transfer to your regular bank.

As far as the debit cards go, the offshores are getting to know what these are all about and know they can't deposit funds in those type cards so they will send you your money by an alternative method. If you do use these cards, either one, you should save your receipt just in case the offshore wants to see some proof of purchase or whatever. You know how they can be sometimes.

One thing I should mention. Even if you are depositing a smaller amount like $200-300, I would recommend getting the permanent card and spending the extra $5. First of all, it only costs $2 to reload each time for almost any amount up to $2500. 2nd, I kept on buying the gift cards because at the time I first started using them, the permanent card was $19.95, and for what I was depositing it just wasn't worth it. But then one day when I went to use it at Bodog, it was turned down. Bodog kept trying to tell me it was my "bank" that was refusing it. No less than 5 minutes later, I made a deposit at another sportsbook with no problem. Well apparently what the problem was, that Bodog keeps a record of all your credit card #'s, and they were showing me with 5 diffferent cards. So they, and Sportsbook.com also, won't let you use more than 5 cards for security-fraud reasons. So if you go with the "permenant" card you'll only have two card #. One would be the original one they give you immediately, and the second one would be the one with your name on it that they mail you in one week. You can checkout these cards at netspend.com and allaccessgift.com.

By the way Ace, the same thing happened to me with my Master Card. I was using it to make deposits offshore. When I tried about three places with no results, I got a call also. They are just trying to make sure that the card wasn't stolen. There are certain books that get around being shown as a offshore. CRIS is one, and BoS was another. BoS would show up as a "novelty" company. So I really don't think it's a case of them denying you because it was a gambling site.

One other thing. My CC is from Washington Mutual, and I don't know if this will happen with other banks, but, I made a deposit with Pinnacle which was accepted. However, when I got my next statement, there was a $10 charge for a cash advance. Since I had never taken a cash advance with this card, I called them to find out what the charge was all about. After checking out my account, he asked if I had made a deposit with a gambling site. I hesitated at first, but then realized that he must have KNOWN I did, so what was the sense of denying it. When I said yes, he stated that it was with McPinnacle, and it was to be treated like a cash advance. Apparently WaMu will let the charge go through, but they are going to nail you with a cash advance fee. Now this never happened with CRIS or BoS, so they must have a way around it.

One other point about the debit cards. Ace you mentioned how you were depositing at several poker sites, and this is also valid for the upcoming football season. Once you load the card, you don't have to deposit the whole amount at one site. So say you're gearing up for the NFL season and you deposit the max of $2500 on the card. You might want to deposit a dime at Pinny, and $500 at Cascade, and $500 elsewhere, and even save $500 in case someone comes up with a special bonus that you haven't heard about yet. You can also use this card at anywhere you can use a debit card...including the ATM, and for renting cars or making a room reservation. IF you don't have a CC for whatever reason, this debit card can be the answer to your prayers.

Same here Roll. The same card was used directly with a sportsbook and it worked like a charm. Visa that is.
