The Mets acquired left-hander Oliver Perez and veteran reliever Roberto Hernandez from the Pirates in exchange for outfielder Xavier Nady on Monday, a source told ESPN.com's Keith Law.

The need to bolster the staff intensified when the Mets lost right-handed setup man Duaner Sanchez for the season to a separated pitching shoulder, ESPN's Steve Phillips confirmed.

This one has been announced for a while...love the trade for the Mets. Nady is overrated and needed the bullpen help after Sanchez went down(speaking of which, what TERRIBLE luck...jesus).

If Perez came somehow get back close to what he was, Mets get a HUGE steal here

Maybe getting out of Pittsburgh will do the trick

haha. I love the trade for the buccos. Have fun with perez, gas can this year. I loved him when he could get 10 K's a game, its just not there anymore after surgery.

I actually like X nady, even before this trade, seems like when I bet agaisnt him on the mets and pads he would always hit doubles and Hr's to kill me.

Bay nady and burnitz(if that dude could ever get back on track) would be a decent outfield....for the buccos

Decent for who??? Opposing pitchers???

Bay is solid...those other 2 are bums. You need offense out of your outfielders. That is a pathetic OF in my opinion.

Exactly. He may never get back to what he once was, but I think it's worth taking a chance on.

Guy is still very young, needs a good pitching coach or a veteran like Glavine to take him under his wing, imo.

I think Nady in Pitt will tear it up. Realize this is his first real year to play everyday, his numbers have been at Shea, (a pitcher's park) and he's missed some time with an appendicitis to boot.

question is, how long does Pittsburgh keep Nady before they ship HIM off???

When was the last time the Pirates had an actual "plan" to build a winning team?? They are ALWAYS in rebuilding mode, ALWAYS

my thoughts exactely. sometimes when a player knows that he will start everyday and possible be a big part of the offense(sadly)...maybe he will step up. ill still take his avg of 270 some and his high 20's hr's every year.

Can Nady pitch?

I know Perez can't and Roberto Hernandez is 100 years old. What's the difference?

remember, you cant think about too much for the pirates.

We seem to have good pitching talent in the minors...we take a pitcher with the 1-5 pick overall every year :icon_conf

I like nady because he is fairly young.

nady bay sanchez j wilson bautista ... young nucleaus for the short dollared pirates.

This trade was about HERNANDEZ, not Perez...lets not kid ourselves here. I think too many people remember the Oliver Perez who had one great season a few years ago, and not the one who looks lost out there now. Hernandez is the key to this trade; he's the reason the Mets pulled the trigger. They needed a bullpen boost and they got it. His stuff is still good, and he has a ton of experience.

perez just tries to over power batters with his 93mph fastball.

he has potential but he went down bigtime the past couple years.

Exactly. It works for the Mets for now. They had to have someone in the pen after the injury to Sanchez.
