This is so dumb it is hilarious.

No matter what they resign him for, it will be a bidding war. The amount is not going to change whether they trade him or not.

So instead of getting a couple pitchers for him and then attempt to resign him in the off season, they are just going to get nothing for him and attempt to resign him.

WTF?

This point is a good one, although I do think there is a slightly better chance of resigning him by showing loyalty to him. I think he will be quite a bit overpriced in the free agent market anyway so I would have tried to get a couple HIGH QUALITY starting pitching prospects.

Excellent news, I am very glad to see a team not cave in and try and win with the players they have, and build upon it...this unloading players crap has ruined baseball.

Part 1 of a potential Nats disaster has fallen into place: not trading him.
Part 2 will be not re-signing him.

I have to absolutely 100% believe that Bowden knows that they can and WILL re-sign him. Otherwise, there's no way he doesn't make a deal.

Unless he was drunk, which is a distinct possibility.

Still would've rather gotten great prospects and then attempted to re-sign him. We'll see how this shakes out.

They would have gooten killed in any trade, they wouldn't have gotten anywhere near his value, props to the Nats for standing up and saying we will pay our players and we will compete...I'm sick of these fire sales.

If they don't re-sign him, then the can't-miss prospects they WOULD'VE gotten will now become a couple draft picks. Uh, I'll take the prospects who equated to nowhere near his value.

Better re-sign this motherfucker. I think they definitely will. Club will be a laughing stock if they don't, and new ownership and Bowden will not let that happen.

no way the nats would keep him if they didn't think they would re-sign him.
the new ownership is filthy rich, the sticking point will be the no-trade clause that soriano wants.
Worst case scenario, two whopping draft picks, hell yes!

It's not entirely up to Bowden and ownership, skins. Soriano will go to a contender (probably AL to boot), even if he has to settle for a little less money

Whether they resign him or not...now where do they get any pitching?

His 30 HRs haven't done them much good this year because they have no pitching.

We'll see what happens, Ego.

They need to get a good leadoff hitter if they do re-sign Soriano. He has ZERO business in the leadoff spot. He's a run producer, not a table setter

Well you don't just give up on a great player because you have no pitching...at some point you need cornerstone players.

Give up???

Huh???

The guy is a free agent...he will be the most sought after free agent on the market...where do you get "give up" from?

They are going to have to bid on him just like every other team. They are not winning this year and won't win next year without pitching. Why not trade him for pitching while he is the hottest commodity in the trade market and then try and resign him?

What will they have to show for him if he takes the big bucks from the big market teams this off season?
