Yep! Noticed the same thing. Not hard to figure out why considering the companies mailing out information for the BOS family were charged as well.

Postage will probably go up to 50 cents to make up for lost revenue.

Each time they mail something they're opening themselves up to a felony. That's why DB quit sending out schedules awhile back. No need to take risks if you don't have to.

If it becomes illegal for sportsbooks to advertise in printed media in the US, therx.com and EOG.com better get their servers in Costa Rica A.S.A.P.

And raise the advertising rates because you guys will have a monopoly.

After being at the WSOP, I can tell you we are a long ways from that - hell you can still advertise on ESPN.

Lawyers for BetOnSports failed to appear in court
By Robert Patrick
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
07/31/2006
Lawyers for BetOnSports, the second or third-largest online betting and gambling company, failed to show up in federal court in St. Louis this morning to answer criminal charges of racketeering and fraud.
Federal prosecutors said the company had been served with the appropriate paperwork, including papers given to former BetOnSports CEO David Carruthers upon his arrest in Texas. The U.S. Attorney’s office is researching what sanctions will be requested against the company.
Carruthers, who has since been fired, was also not present. His lawyer said he was in transit from Texas and his arraignment is expected later today.
All of the other criminal defendants pleaded not guilty either in person or through lawyers, including one other company, DME Global Marketing & Fulfillment Inc.
A lawyer for DME said lawyers or representatives of two other companies that had been charged, Direct Mail Expertise Inc. and Mobil Promotions Inc., were unlikely to show up because the companies had gone out of business.
"Then we’ll just have to take you into custody," U.S. Magistrate Judge Mary Ann Medler joked.
The companies and employees have been charged in federal court in St. Louis with a 22-count indictment that alleges that BetOnSports allowed U.S. gamblers to bet and gamble billions of dollars even though the company knew it was illegal.
DME Global and the other companies are accused of providing advertising and promotional services and helping sign up customers.

I'm getting more cold calls instead. Used to be only Feist's group would leave messages on my machine. Today, I got one from Wager Web and got one from BETonus a few days ago. Hate when they leave messages. Doesn't hurt me much but I think it loses them business with married guys who don't openly acknowledge to SO their hobby.
Snail mailings do seem to be down. If i don't get deluged in next couple of weeks I will know they are scared of feds as that is the peak season for mailings with pre-football post up blitz time.

The feds must have something working because I usually have 3 or 4 mailings a day by late Juy & early august. I have NOTHING this year.

So it must be illegal to send advertising for sports books via mail. I am not sure, but somebody is scared of something.

My only question is, Phil Steele sent me a free copy of his 2006 college football preview magazine this week. It has been on the newstand for over a month...long before Caruthers was arrested. For the first time ever, there is no advertising for a sportsbook in this magazine this year.

It's still too early to tell for me, but I think this seems right. If I don't receive much before the end of this month, then I'll assume there have been pretty big cutbacks in this.

Ok guys, I just got a copy of the Vegas Offshore in the mail today. Includes full page ads for Millennium, MVP, V-Wager, Players Super Book & OSGA.

Either the mailing was a fuck up by the BoS group and they are wasting vaulable ad dollars OR they are about to tell DOJ to fuck off.

I think this was a screw up by BoS myself.

What did Wagerweb'a message say? They left one for me last week talking about 70-80% bonuses. I've always like WW but to me that does not sound good.

Wait till October. It will get worse. I suspct some companies were on the cusp of mailing a lot of stuff and decided not to in wake of what happened.
Of course I am sure they returned the money.
