tigers acquire sean casey, ship chris shelton to triple-a

Little bit of a shocker as I thought Chris Shelton was a decent role player on the team. Started out smoking hot whacking the ball all over the place, but cooled off and went into a slump. Tigers didn't give up much to get Casey, but a Double-A pitching prospect, so maybe some more veteran leadershhip and club house quality guy will help.

Shelton made a couple huge errors and a bone head play yesterday in the meltdown vs Minny which lead to a 6 run rally and a win for the Twins. Do you think Leyland flipped out and sent his ass packing over that? Like I said it's not like he had shit numbers and was struggling for months and months.

Anyway, It was said dude was crying and and pissed off when he receieved the news.

Surprising to say the least....I thought he was one of their up and coming players that they thought very highley of...guess not that much.

Well, Shelton grew up in the Tampa area and had a bunch of people coming to the game today and he was sent to the farms, harsh.

Dmitri Young is starting at 1st tonight and Casey will get the start tomorrow. So I'm assuming they will platoon Casey and Young at 1st and use the other as a left handed bat coming off the bench.

Same with left field in Monroe and Thames. Now you have four guys (Monroe, Thames, Young, Casey) for 3 positions (1B-LF-DH).

Should be interesteing to see how he shuffles the lineup around on a nightly basis from here out.

They made the trade bexause they wanted to help balance their line up with a left handed hitter in there and Young can not play defense! Bad move for me as Shelton helped get the Tigers off to the HOT start and he DOES NOT belong in the minors!! Casey can't play 10 games without having an ingrown toenail or a hangnail. He has done nothing and he would LOVE to have Sheltons numbers! Detroit has possibly messed up a good thing in my opinion as I would take Shelton over the 10 time OVER PAID 35 games a year player!!!

Jim Leyland was furious after last nights game vs Minny about the two knucklehead plays Shelton made on defense. I think they got Casey because he is a gold glove caliber type player out there at 1st.

Interesting.....had not heard this, and was wondering why he was not in the line up tonight .....guess I wont be seeing him play Tuesday night when the Tigers blast the Rays...

1) lefty on mound

2) just go into right before game

Did he have 3?? I saw two for sure, which Rays scored runs off of both if I am not mistaken.....maybe the team will put it together more so with Verlander on the mound Tuesday night......I will be going to the game to see the potential Cy Young winner.....

actually he had 4, official scorer missed one i believe. enjoy the game, i think detroit and verlander get it done with ease tomorrow.

yep. offical scorer missed one. DY should of had 4 errors. Shelton got sent down because he's struggled for awhile now. On top of that, I know that Vance Wilson and him had beef. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.
