I'm not so sure how I feel about this....
His power would have been greatly appreciated...but I kind of like CoCo out there in center.....He can cover a LOT of ground as well....but I guess Jones' homeruns would help a lot....

With pitching as valuable as it is...I don't know if it would have been worth it largely in the long run....

Thoughts?

GREAT PLAYER.......but as a Red Sox fan, glad it didn't happen.

As THEO stated, they are on a longterm plan.

No use depleting what is a great minor league system.

Who would they have given up?

Very tough to pass on a 5 tool player like Andruw Jones. He upgrades any team in a lot of ways...not just hitting for power.

What I am saying is, CoCo can cover a lot of ground in center, and he is FAST.....So Andruw wouldn't help out TREMENDOUSLY in that sense...

His power is A LOT greater than Crisp obviously....

The Sox would have had to give up a lot of their decent pitching prospects in Pawtucket

John Miller mentioned on Sunday night baseball that an ex GM should write a book regarding deals that happened, and deals that never happened, but were extremely close to happening...

It would be so interesting to see who would have gone where, and for what.....and how it actually turned out 4-5 years from the "deal date"....

The Braves asked for:

Coco Crisp
Jon Lester
Craig Hansen

for Andruw Jones....

almost laughable, but def. appealing considering that Jones' name wasnt out there. But asking for basically a teams' top two pitching prospects, and starting center fielder...the deal wasn't close, but was offered.

The thing that makes Theo Espstein such a good GM...he never panics to make a deal, especially to please red sox nation (who give every trade scenario through the air waves).

Jones would hae made a splash with the fans who don't know how the business works, but Theo won't hamstring the fture just to please...which is a quality so important for a GM.

I have a lot of respect for him.

Coco Crisp is a 0

in 1 year Jacoby Ellsbury will be the CF for the Sox

Jacoby is burning up AA Ball

Ellsbury is a Base stealer and Jacoby can flat out play

Obviously we are happy Theo didn't pull the trigger giving up Hansen and Lester--HOWEVER--this staff is not sitting well. That should be the last start for Tubby--Snyder saved his "bacon". Bully has been crappy before tonight as well. Could have used another pitcher.

Yeah Ellsbury is really ahead of schedule...and progresing very well...Sox beat writer, Sean McAdam stated today on the radio that the time table for Ellsbury is still around two seasons away.

I'm guessing they want to be a lil patient, rather than throwing all the kinds on the major squad. Dustin Pedroia is aso batting .300+ @ AAA....and they have a couple outfielders like David Murphy & Brandon Moss ( I beleive thats his name). So I can't see them going too quickly w/ Jacoby...

but agree, the kid is going to be a special player.

the big problem Theo likely ran into, whale...

Having too much young talent succeed...it may sounds rediculous. But I seriously doubt Theo got many trade scenarios that didnt include, the names: Lester, Hansen, Delcarmen, etc.

They already sacrificed one of their young studs in the Beckett deal...Anibal Sanchez.

Especially after the Abreu deal...I would imagine, many teams were tryin to get the Sox to over spend w/ young talent...for a pretty shitty pool of starting pitching available. Names like OSwalt, Willis, etc had legitimally no shot at being traded...everyone else available wasnt worth the asking price, imo.

Wow! Surprised and disapointed Theo didn't make that move. Coco Crisp is a stiff and sucks. Do you know how huge that would have been to land A.J. from ATL? Can't believe they passed, geez. Andruw Jones as a Red Sox, dang.

probably took Theo 2 seconds to hang up. Insulting asking price by Atlanta. No chance in hell Lester gets traded for anything. They want no part of giving up Hansen either.

Granted Coco Crisp has been hurt, but he has been a terrible dissapointment in Boston. This isn't the first time Atlanta has shopped Jones around.
