They've no doubt seen all of the Cuban-Americans partying in the streets of Little Havana based on the news of his illness. If Castro does take the trip to the "big casino" they'll probably delay a formal announcement until they've got all of their contengencies covered. There's precedent for this back in the days of the USSR--there was speculation that Brezhnev died some time before the "official" announcement of his death.
And, of course, we did that in South Carolina with Strom Thurmond who probably *really* died years before his Senate term ended...
