COLORADO –1 +1.20 over Milwaukee
The Rockies are back to being the Rockies and that means when they’re at home they’re dangerous as hell. They took three out of four from the Padres and followed that up with a 4-2 win last night and suddenly they’re back in the race. The Rocks will see David Bush tonight and he’s been brutal away from Miller Park all year. Bush has a 6.34 ERA on the road and he’s been especially ineffective over his last four appearances, two out of the pen, allowing 17 runs in 12 innings and allowing the opposition to hit a whopping .447 off him. Furthermore, the Brewers have lost 13 of 18 and things really don’t figure to change here, not with Bush laboring as bad as he is at the moment. Play: Colorado –1 +1.20 (Risking 1.5 units).

Washington +1.44 over SAN FRANCISCO
The Giants stock is dropping quicker than Mel Gibson’s and this tag against the Giants today is as sweet as any on the board. San Fran has now lost eight in a row and will have to rely on rookie Matt Cain to get them right-sided. Cain looks like he might be a good one but he’s been very inconsistent and the Nationals have seen him twice already this year. Cain has very average numbers at SBC Park that have been getting progressively worse as the season wears on and it’s also worth noting that his control has been very erratic of late, a sure sign of a tired arm. Meanwhile, the Nationals are warm and they’ve had the Giants number this season by beating them in each of the four games they’ve played. Livan Hernandez may not be the best pitcher in the business but he can still pitch and is used to these long hot summers and providing his team with quality starts. If he gets through the first two innings strongly, he’s very difficult to beat. A definite overlay here. Play: Washington +1.44 (Risking 1.5 units).

Seattle –1 +1.09 over BALTIMORE
The Mariners are really playing some good ball right now and it sure doesn’t look like the Orioles are going to slow them down, not with Rodrigo Lopez throwing. Lopez won his last start versus the Royals but don’t let that fool you. He was torched in that game by the Royals but Kansas City failed to cash in 25 of 27 opportunities with men on base. Lopez was brutal and has been all year with a 6.57 ERA and allowing 168 hits in 127 frames. The Mariners are much stronger vs righties and the Orioles are much weaker vs lefties as their 11-25 record against southpaws could attest to. Jamie Moyer needs no introduction; the man has been pitching in this league for about 50 years and will not get rattled. Anyway, this pick has much more to do with playing on a warm Mariners team against one of the most hittable hurlers in the game. Play: Seattle –1 +1.09 (Risking 1.5 units).
