Sometimes I Just Don't "Get" Pinnacle...

Believe me, I'm a pinnacle fan through and through. They've been my primary out for around 3 years now, but at times, like all of you pinnacle players can attest, customer service is frustrating to deal with to say the least.

Tonight I placed two wagers with them, both at approximately 7:30 pm EST to 7:40 pm EST. One of the wagers I hit pretty good, the under in NYY/Tor. The line that was in front of me was 10.5 +103, I hit refresh, it went to 10.5 -107, over the next couple of minutes I hit refresh maybe three more times, it came back to 10.5 +101, and I placed my bet. It eventually closed at 10.5 +110, cost me several hundred dollars in juice by NOT waiting and clicking refresh every few seconds.

A couple hours later I go to logon at pinny, get nothing, like the site is down. I e-mailed their customer service, they asked for my IP, I sent it. I got the following e-mail in return.

Dear Sir,

We have been informed that the IP address you provided to us has been the originating source of accounts using robotic tools.

This has caused performance problems for Pinnacle Sports. We have therefore denied access to this IP.

Our IT staff will activate your IP address when you advise this type of activity has ceased and will not occur in the future.

Customer Service Department
Pinnacle Sports

My response:

robotic tools?? I have no idea what you're talking about.

Their response:

Dear Sir,

There are actually a few of our customers that are using automated tools to get the lines from our site. Some use auto-refresh at the browser level or actual customer made tools.

In several instances the lines are gathered several times during the same second. This may lower the rapidity of access to our site for other clients and cause performance problems for Pinnacle Sports.

If one or two of our customers would be doing this we could close our eyes to it but the sum of all these automated tools ends up putting a lot of stress on our system. We understand that our clients may want to place their wagers on the best odds. However, in fairness of other clients that may want to access to our site and cannot because of the slower service, we cannot allow a high number of hits on the refresh button or the usage of any kind of robotic tool to refresh the lines.

We actively monitor our system and shut down the IP that demonstrate abusive usage of our services.
Our IT staff will activate your IP address when you advise this type of activity has ceased and will not occur in the future.

We appreciate you understanding.

In summation, I have no idea what the hell they're talking about, I wouldn't know a robotic tool if it bit me on the ass. If clicking refresh a few times in a 1-2 minute period is going to cause them to block my IP...especially when the line is jumping all over the place and I'm putting several dimes on games, not to mention that when the money changes just one cent the system kicks you out, I don't know what to say.

To avoid this they'll ask you to log in and either hit refresh manually or use their dynamic lines. They don't like for you viewing their lines without logging in and hitting refresh repeatedly. They accused me of the robots too, but said the repeated refreshing of their lines was also a likely cause.

I would tell them to shove their robotic tools theory up their ____.

If they give you more problems just get two or three accounts on two or three computers and take 3 $500 robotic bonuses to pay for your robotic computer purchasing troubles...

I got this exact same email from them about a year and a half ago, I had no idea what they were talking about, got it cleared up quickly.
Heaven forbid a player look at an updated line and hit refresh once or twice.

They have built into their software a counter for refreshing whether you are logged on to the website or not. If you exceed the counter within a certain time period they will disable your IP. That's why they went to the dynamic lines because everyone hitting refresh drags the system down. You really need Windows XP and a lot of memory to get the full benefit of dynamic lines...otherwise your system won't work properly, especially on screens with drop down boxes.

Can you access the dynamic lines feature when not logged in? If so, how do you do this?

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

I guess they have too many people that are hitting refresh right before a game and that puts a strain on their servers, which could effect the performance of their site....very interesting that they track this sort of info from people that visit their website.

No you can't, but I know people sometimes will just watch the lines without logging on and they keep hitting refresh....you will soon find yourself shut off from access to the website.

BS That is not the customer's fault. Upgrade the system, get a better server or get more bandwidth. All they really want is for you to take the number you see not the number you want.

If that was true why would they have created Dyn. lines?

Why not cease refreshing altogether, login, and
use their update button as often as you wish.
I've never had a problem with this.

Alternately, instead of using the refresh button,
go back to the main page and then into the
sport you're interested in. Or use their own
navigation links at the top of the page.

Tell them you found the problem, refer them
to this thread, and request they unblock you.
