Washington / San Francisco

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
August 2, 2006 MLB Picks
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Washington Nationals @ San Francisco Giants
Washington : Team Total Over 4 (+108) ... 2.00 Unit / 2.16 Unit
Game Total Over 8.5 (-118) ... 1.18 Unit / 1.00 Unit

====================

Post All-Star, Jason Schmidt has been struggling. In his last 3 games, he's 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP, averaging 6 innings per outing. The opponents he has faced were Milwaukee, San Diego, and Pittsburgh, all whom rank near the bottom in scoring in the MLB. In fact, for the last 3 months, he's been on a decline. In May, he started 6 games, going 4-0 with a 1.17 ERA, averaging 7.66 IP. In June, he started 5 games, going 1-1 with a 2.80 ERA, averaging 7 IP. In July, he started 5 games, going 1-4 with a 4.97 ERA, averaging 5.8 IP. San Francisco's bullpen hasn't exaclty been stars either, combining for a 1.52 WHIP and a 3.91 ERA for the year.

Washington, on the other hand, has been on a mild tear. They have won 8 of their last 11 games and since the All-Star Break, have failed to score 4 or more runs in only 1 game out of 17. With San Francisco losing their last 9 games in a row, Washington at +156 might hold some long-term value.

Umpiring today is Rob Drake, who has averaged 11.33 Runs for the year with a Over / Under record of 11-6. Add a 9 mph wind out to dead-center for the forecast at AT&T Park, and all signs are seeming to point for Washington at least scoring 4 runs. With plus value, I don't see any disadvantages. Even given the fact that San Francisco's bats have been weak and with Bonds possibly out of the line-up, the game total over 8.5 looks decent, as Tony Armas's 4.79 ERA isn't that great either and Rob Drake being behind the plate.

There ... Basically, my first write-up on a game. Don't know if it will help anyone (if anyone is even looking in this thread), but oh well.

As Minnesota / Texas doesn't have a line yet, there's my early day picks so far. More picks might come later, but this it for now.

Good luck to all on today !!!

Washington Team Total Now At 3.5 (-114) at Pinnacle.

But, as stated, I'm confident with the 4 and + juice, so not doing any extra buying yet. And as a rookie at this, what does that mean exactly when the book went down .5 point with added juice? I'm pretty sure I know, but just asking.

Does anyone have any extra input on this game ?

And for the more experienced, am I at least looking at the right aspects of the game when capping?

Well, Jason Schmidt did only go 6 Innings, but he pitched a very strong 6 innings. Thank god the bullpen had to go 3 innings, I guess. Not 100% how I capped it, but good enough.
