wow what a wager. I was already thinking about that one on Saturday if Barbaro could hang on to 3 year old or even horse of the year.

I even thought it was possible that (and this makes little sense but I could see it) that Barbaro wins the 3 year old title (the kindness vote) but Bernardini wins horse of the year if he wins out from here. sort of a split title.

I would play Barbaro right now in this -143 as a slight overlay considering Bernardini will not win it just with the Travers, no way no how, he needs the Travers and the Classic.

Bernardini will not win the classic. Invasor will win that race easily. I think Bernardini is just a good horse. He realy hasn't beat anything yet. It will be a test to go against older horses.

I certainly wouldn't bet that Invasor wins the Classic easily. He hasn't run much faster than Bernardini's Preakness. I've yet to hear what Bernardini earned in the Jim Dandy. Invasor will also be spotting a bit of weight.

I wouldn't want to bet Bernardini at the price to win the 3yo title, as I think the price is about right. No real edge.

Here's the way I see it. Is there anyone currently in training that will challenge Bernardini in the Travers? Although his race in the Jim Dandy was nothing more then a shutdown workout in the stretch, is there speed or a stalker that can put pressure on him and is expected to start in the Travers. If not, and he wins, he only needs to run decently, not win, in the Breeder's Cup Classic to lock up the 3 year old Eclipse Award. Barbaro won the Florida Derby and the Kentucky Derby before being hurt. Winning the Preakness, Travers and performing decently in the Classic seems a greater accomplishment. In my opinion, it all depends on the Travers. As a side note, believe a mile and a quarter is not Bernardini's best distance.

But with the handicap division being what it is, a horse that is better at a mile or 9 panels can certainly win it. Especially a still developing 3 year old with a well managed campaign.

Bernardini can close-- that won't matter...it should come down to him & Invasor...and favor more the former due slightly better internal times, although we shouldn't judge Invasor off its first or second races off the planel....the next race for both, assuming dry surfaces, should clear up the picture.
