I nominate Sarah Michelle Gellar and Adrian Greiner (Vinny Chase on "Entourage") in "Harvard Man". Basically, Vinny..er...Adrian is a big star on the Harvard hoops team and Sarah Michelle gets him to throw a game. Highlight of the film is her getting $500,000 down with a local book on an Ivy League game without any problems (or without the line moving). Writer/Director is noted sports gambling degenerate James Toback (who also wrote the script for "Bugsy") and should know better. Here's the plot synopsis from IMDB:

>>
Sarah Michelle Gellar plays a Holy Cross cheerleader named Cindy who is dating the point guard for the Harvard basketball team. Her father is a mob boss, and she gets her boyfriend Alan (played by Adrian Grenier) mixed up in sports betting. Joey Lauren Adams plays Alan's philosophy professor with whom Alan's got something going on the side. Eric Stoltz is an undercover FBI agent infiltrating Cindy's father's mafia operations. Rebecca Gayheart plays Stoltz' co-FBI agent/girlfriend, and Ray Allen plays Grenier's Harvard teammate.

Just a brutal film...not sure if there's ever been a *good* sports gambling movie (though DiNiro's portrayal of Frank "Ace Rothstein" Rosenthal in "Casino" could be considered one I guess) but this sure ain't it...

Adrian Greiner ought to be glad he got the gig on "Entourage" because in this film he puts in arguably the worst acting performance since the days of Jami Gertz and Andrew McCarthy...

I liked BASEketball just for Bob Costas' classic line:

"You're excited? Feel these nipples"

Though I don't know if I'd consider it a sports gambling film. If you want to talk worst pure sports film ever I'd suggest the car racing movie "Driven" staring Sly Stallone...

In all fairness to James Toback, he did write the script for one of the *best* gambling movies ever--"The Gambler" starring James Caan:

In his IMDB entry we learn that he claims to have "taken the most hits of acid ever recorded" which explains a lot...

Suprised how good that movie about Stu Ungar was. Guy from Soprano played him.

I have not even heard of most of these movies. Guess I got more homework to do.

I am not suprised to see someone saying something bad about 'Two for the money' I still regard this as a cult classic. I own the DVD and have watched it several times, and have many of the lines memorized. Well we had a thread about it in the entertainment forum, so I know I am not the only one who feels this way.

"Whoa, whoa! I believe, I believe! I believe you're trying to make me deaf, that's what I believe."

The Stu Ungar film was atrocious.

The Stu Ungar film was attrocious.

Going to disagree on both of your opinions.

Thought "Two for the Money" sucked......... and on the flipside really enjoyed "High Roller" and the Stu Ungar story.

Well that's good Fish. That means I'm right at least once.

To each his own I guess. I personally thought "Owning Mahoney" was one of the best.

The problem I had with Owning Mahoney was that it was made so cheaply and you could feel it coming through the screen. It interfered with the movie itself. The story itself was interesting, but it just didn't come off right.

"Bookies" with Johnny Galecki and Lukas Haas is the worst sports betting movie ever. Nothing else comes close.

Best one is "Casino" and "Hard Eight"

Could Casablanca be considered a gambling movie???

Worst one is Oceans 11 the newer one. The Classic one is great!!

I'd rather watch a bad gambling movie than a good girlie flick any day.
