I shall impart to y'all why it would be a good reason to look closely at the Houston Texans this year.
1) Gary Kubiak: a coach with a history of success, coming from an organization with a history of success
2) Mario Williams. Do you want a 6'7" 289lb guy coming after you if you were the RT trying to protect your QB? Yeah. I thought so.
3) Mike Flanagan: Putting him at center allows McKinney to move back to his natural position at guard, Pitts back at his natural position at guard, and allows the tackles to be played by *gasp* PEOPLE DESIGNED TO BE TACKLES.
4) Mike Sherman coaching the offensive line: A former head coach is now coaching the LINE?!?! Yeah. That's freaking awesome.
5) Jeb Putzier: This will finally allow the Texans to beat a Cover 2 Defense, something which has eluded them since...well...ever. They barely utilized TEs at all the past two years. This will help Carr have options out there to catch the ball, so he doesn't get sacked as much.
6) Jason Babin and Antwaan Peek finally moving back to the positions they have experience at. Playing players at positions where they are comfortable and where they are good at...WHAT A CONCEPT.
7) DeMeco Ryans: watch this kid. He's gonna light it up.
I'd look carefully at the OVERS this year for Houston. Because they had one of the dead last statistical offenses last year, bookmakers may be inclined to set the total lower than normal, but the offense is much improved. Meanwhile, Richard Smith is installing an "aggressive defense" which will predicate itself on big plays, which is great for the over bettor. A big interception returned deep? Instant good field position for the Texans offense. A blown assignment? Instant big play for the opposing offense. It will take the defensive unit probably until mid-season to gel, so look for the overs early.
And then of course, the Texans being the last overall team from last year, their numbers are probably going to be a bit overrated. There will be spots where they have value this year. Maybe not agains teh Eagles in opening weekend (I think that number looks sharp), but they will come.
Enjoy, guys.
And yay 1000 posts!:toast:
