I tried to phone in a wager with www.sportsbook.com today and was informed that they no longer accept phone in wagers. I was very confused as I have placed many wagers over the telephone in the past. I have been a customer with them for over 6 years. Do you think this has anything to do with the new US legislation?

Yes and there should be a lot more books to follow.

I hope not as most of my wagers are made over the phone. Hell I placed 4 wagers TODAY over the phone

Monday was the last day they were taking wagers, and yes it was a direct effect of the BOS situation.

I am really starting to worry now like I said. I know people have said BoS was an isolated incident, but things keep seem to be getting worse.

IS THIS AS FAR AS THE RIPPLE GOES?

For the time being, I think that this is just their way to stay under the radar and away from what could be considered to be covered by the wire act. If the BoS outcome is favorable, don't be surprised if they reopen the phone lines.

Then again, taking wagers over the phone is more expensive than over the internet, so maybe they'll just stick with internet only wagering. Don't think for a minute that there is a book out there that likes to pay clerks to read off various lines to players & tie up a clerk & phone line for 10 minutes at a pop-and I'm sure there are people who do just that.

This is definitely to avoid the wire act.

But also, books have wanted to go all internet for a while, but have needed an excuse to annoy some customers.

It is expensive to man phones.

High bets were initially taken over the phone because software sucked (Remember betting after the game was over and such...)

Now that software is excellent and can automove lines, a lot of books have been looking for an excuse to go all web without pissing people off. The DOJ has given them this excuse.

(This is like the .net - keeps you out of trouble for a little while, but really meaningless if you've been taking phone bets for 10 years.)

I assume the raised the online limits?

I have always bet online via Millenium & never had any problems whatsoever! I was out once and had to phone in a bet and it was a pain in the ass. CS rep didnt speak good english & it took like 10 minutes to place the bet. Internet bets are fine with me!!!!
