Atlanta +1.65 over CINCINNATI (1:20 PM)
Price here dictates this play, as there is no chance of us passing on the Braves +1.65 against the Reds. Of course the Reds can win this game but our job is to find value and we trust we’ve found some here. Bronson Arroyo has been stuck on nine wins for eight consecutive starts and is 0-4 with a 5.04 ERA over that span. The Reds squeaked out a win last night but that doesn’t mean they’re off the mattress. Cinci has still lost five of six and they’re still laboring at the plate. Jason Shiell gets the start for the Braves and while his numbers aren’t pretty in just two starts, he does have 12 k’s in 12 innings and backing a strikeout pitcher against the Reds with a huge tag comes highly recommended. Overlay. Play: Atlanta +1.65 (Risking 1.5 units).

After being in the underdog role all season long the Marlins suddenly find themselves as a significant favorite without Dontrelle Willis on the mound. It’ll be Josh Johnson tonight and he’ll be facing a red-hot Dodgers team that has now won seven in a row and they’re doing it with both solid pitching and some hot bats. In fact, the Dodgers have scored 48 times in those seven wins and the last four games have been on the road. Chad Billingsley can be wild at times but there’s no denying he has serious major league stuff and he’s improving with each start. Billingsley is 2-1 with a 2.35 ERA in four starts since the All-Star break and numbers like that will keep him around for a long time. Josh Johnson is a good one too, however, he’s not the one taking back a tag and he’s not the one pitching for the sizzling club here and that alone makes the Dodgers a strong investment. Play: Los Angeles +1.32 (Risking 1.5 units).

Oakland –1 +1.00 over SEATTLE (4:05 PM)
We have no idea how or why the A’s transform into a powerhouse every August but make no mistake about it, they do. Oakland won again last night for its fifth win in six games and just its second loss in 10. They’ve owned the Mariners this year, winning 10 in a row against them since losing the season opener on April 6 and they’ve outscored Seattle by a ridiculous 62-25. In addition, this one is a complete pitching mismatch with Dan Haren opposing Joel Pineiro. Haren is solid and reliable and has walked just 31 batters in 154 innings while striking out 116. Piniero has allowed 155 hits in 125 innings and against the A’s this year, he’s 0-3 with a 7.94 ERA. In 17 innings versus Oakland, Pineiro has been tagged for 19 runs (15 earned) and 23 hits. He's also gotten just three runs of support from his team in those outings and frankly, things really don’t figure to change here. Play: Oakland –1 +1.00 (Risking 1.5 units).
