Just keep on keepin on....this club is like a machine .

:toast: Not too many teams have ever won 109-110 games in a season...

Detroit just needs to go .500 (26-26) the rest of the way to win 100 games.

yes there seems to be no fading in the regular season but will the team fold in the playoffs against the more playoff tested teams will be the question. a great regular season doesnt mean automatic success in the playoffs

here we go again. Sooner or later someone will be right. They have lost 1 of their last 16 or series and still don't quite the credit they have earned up till this point. UNBELEIVABLE!!!!

Hell of a season out of nowhere, but have concerns about the ability to win vs playoff caliber teams. Not sure you can come back and win in the 9th in the playoffs vs top tier caliber closers in Rivera, Papelbon, etc.

Rogers and Bonderman having struggles since the break. Verlander on the pines with arm fatigue. Robertson doing, ok, nothing great. Miner and Maroth average at best.

Bad record vs the top notch teams. Not much playoff experience.

Pulling for them though and would be nice to see one of the worst teams of the 90's and early 00's break through to win it all.

I'm sure if you told Detroit fans this club would be .500 this year, before the year started, they would take that and be happy.

Doesn't everyone team have questions and concerns? Not saying they will win the world series. All I am saying is they CLEARLEY, since early May, have established themselves as the best team in baseball and their are no question about that.

Yeah, best team in baseball. A magic/swager about this team and they are something special this year. Hope they win the World Series. I love Tigers and Jim Leyland also.

Only player I don't like on that team is Craig Monroe because he has underachieved so bad in the past and has always come up short in the cluth.

That is until recently as he has been on fire since the break and has come up big in the clutch. Still would have liked to package him along with Tata and Sanchez to Wash for Soriano though.

Personally I was glad we did not do the Soriano deal. We would have been renting him for 2 months with no guarantee that he'd sign on for the long haul. Giving up a prospect with the nasty stuff that Sanchez has would not have been worth it. Tata also has some talent and Monroe is still a 30 HR a year guy despite his struggles in the 1st half.

That is not true. Monroe's 10 of his 18 HR's all year have came from the 7th inning on.

I agree with the whole he frustrates you but it is because he has underachieved but slowly is starting to put up big numbers but one thing is he has been awesome late in the game all year

Don't put the Tigers in the playoffs just yet. Their August schedule looks like this:

White Sox - 7 times
Twins - 3 times
Yanks - 3 times
Red Sox - 3 times
Rangers - 4 times

Then they play the Angels the first three days in September.

That's 23 games versus teams with winning records. In addition, they have a losing record against three of those teams (White Sox, Red Sox and Yanks)

And the White Sox schedule is not much easier. Bonus West Coast trip in September and close out the season in Minnesota.

I still don't know how they didn't win. Cleveland had so many wasted chances today. Hafner left a lot on base today.

Journey,
Not sure what the answer is but I keep (like alot of people) waiting and waiting for some sort of semi-collapse and nothing. They have had maybe one 4 game losing streak I can recall. No 2 wins out of 10 or nothing like that. I know the thing is the minute they lose 4 in a row panic will set in by everyone who is waiting to say I told you so

The thing is they keep winning EVERY series, its something like 16 out of 17 series wins. If CWS and Minnestoa lose these series to Detroit this week than I would have to think it is close to over.

They were talking on sports radio earlier today about possibily putting Zumaya as a starter next year (started in minors) and they have a guy in triple A (Sanchez) who pitched in the futures all-star game and throws upper 90's, plus they just signed Andrew Miller (projectd #1 in draft but slipped due to signablility) who is a 6 ft 6in lefty and was the voted college pitcher of the year. With Verlander and Bonderman it is possibile to have all 5-6 starters under 25 in the next few years. Guys like Ledezma (who is under 25 and pitched 6 shutout innings today against a good hitting Cleveland) Miner (who has filled in admirably for Maroth, anothe decent young arm but closer to 27 or so) and Nate Robertson (quiet solid season) may not be good enough to be apart of the future in Detroit. GM Dave Dombrowski has built quite a pitching staff and to think they went 53-119 in 2003.

Detroit is not going to lose this division...and remember what Chicago did last year...a team without playoff experience can beat Bos or NYY because neither is as dominant as they were at all.

If Rogers can't get it back in gear, that could be the problem, they may be a little short on really good starters in the post season.... staff is a little out of gas currently....

Rogers is not the type of pitcher who goes wire to wire and wins 23 games either.

Detroit is currently 9 games ahead of Chicago, who is the wild card leader, and 9.5 ahead of Boston, trailing in the wild card. The Tigers would have to lose 10 games, over the next 49, to both of those teams to miss the playoffs. Unlikely.
