==========

In today's matchup, we have Ricky Nolasco coming into town to face Tony Armas. All my emphasis on this game lies within these 2 starting pitchers.

Ricky Nolasco enters today's game sporting a 7-6 record as a starter, along with a 4.25 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. This young 23-year-old is starting to find a groove as of late, however. His post-All Star numbers have been impressive. During that time, he his 3-1, sporting a 1.90 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP in 4 starts, and that's including his last dismal outing against the New York Mets, where he allowed 4 earned runs in 2 innings pitched. In his last outing hosting Washington, he allowed 1 earned run in 7 inning pitched during a 4-2 victory. His pitching counterpart ... Tony Armas.

Tony Armas comes to the mound today with a 7-7 record, sporting a 5.16 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. His post All-Star numbers aren't nearly as impressive. During that time, he 1-3 with a 8.20 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. In his last outing against Florida, he allowed 4 earned runs in 5 innings pitched during a 4-2 loss. His pitching counterpart ... Ricky Nolasco. Armas's career record against Florida is 3-10, with a 5.74 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP.

Although I believe Nolasco will outpitch Armas today for my minor play, my main play lies in the First 5 innings. Even with Nolasco's impressive post-All Star numbers, I believe his track record at Washington will off-set those numbers slightly. In his last outing at RFK Stadium on July 3, he allowed 7 earned runs in 4 innings pitched in a 9-1 loss. Tony Armas season-track at his home ballpark isn't something to brag about either. In 8 games this year, Armas is 2-1, with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP, averaging 5 innings and 3 runs per outing.

In conclusion, I can see this being a 3-3 tie after 5 innings, but I believe Armas will be relieved quicker than Norasco, resulting in yet another no-decision @ home for Armas and a 5-4 Florida victory, possibly in extra innings.

==========

In this matchup today, Cole Hamels comes into Atlanta to face off against Tim Hudson.

Hamels enters todays game 4-5, sporting a 5.27 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP, averaging 5.38 Innings and 3.23 Earned Runs per outing. In his previous outing against Atlanta this year, he went 5 1/3 innings, giving up 7 earned runs in a 10-8 loss. His counterpart ... Tim Hudson.

Hudson comes into today still unable to find any kind of consistent groove this season. He is 8-10 so far, with a 5.22 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP, averaging 6.18 Innings and 3.58 Earned Runs per outing. He is 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA against Philadelphia this year, with the only game a 10-8 win against Cole Hamels.

Umpiring today is Tim McClelland is 15-8 (65%) against the O/U this year, allowing 7.25 Walks and 10.11 Runs per game. Atlanta comes into today averaging 5.12 Runs Per Game. Philadelphia enters today with a 5.08 Runs Per Game average, with an incredible 69 runs scored in their last 10 games. So far this year in their head-to-head match-ups, there has been 101 runs scored in 9 games (11.22 Runs Per Game), going 6-3 against the O/U.

In conclusion, I believe both pitchers will allow their fair share of runs, but with Hudson lasting nearly an inning average over Hamels, plus Hudsons prior career track against the Phillies, I see Atlanta holding on to a 4-3 lead after 5 innings, with the final score probably seeing Philadelphia pulling out a 6-5 victory.
