hope the IP has one of these machines...

Associated Press

BRIDGEPORT, Ind. -- Gamblers at Caesars Indiana raked in nearly a half-million dollars over two days on one slot machine that gave players credit for putting in 10 times as much money as they really had.

Caesars lost $487,000 before a player notified officials of the problem with the slot machine, The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., reported today.
The Indiana Gaming Commission is investigating, and the casino might end up being fined for failing to follow procedures designed to prevent such a problem, said Jennifer Arnold, the commission's deputy director.
The casino intends to try to get the money back, but commission Director Ernest Yelton said he did not know whether players were legally obligated to return their winnings.
Kathryn Ford of Louisville, Ky., realized something was wrong July 23 when she and her husband sat down at two of the machines, called Extra Money.
"We were going to have a race to see who could accumulate the most at one time on the same machine," she said.
But when she put in a $20 bill, the machine registered it as $200. She tried another $20 bill and the same thing happened, she said.
Ford said she put eight $20 bills in the machine and received vouchers that could be redeemed for $1,600 in cash -- without even playing.
Other gamblers noticed.
"There was even a young woman who jumped in while I was sitting there. She ... reached across me, popped a hundred in, popped out a thousand and then she took off," Ford said.
Ford and her husband reported the problem to a security officer, and casino officials determined that new software had been installed on the machine on July 21, according to a gaming commission report. The machine had a switch set in a position for use in the Philippines instead of the United States, and it instructed the machine to multiply credits by 10, the report said.
Seven other machines also had received new software, but they did not have the error.
Casino general manager Ed Garruto acknowledged that "our testing procedures before putting the game in place were not completely followed."
The commission report said three technicians and one supervisor were involved in the installation and testing of the software, and the technician who set the machine has been suspended pending investigation.
Garruto said he did not believe the error was deliberate.
"It looks like it was a costly mistake," he said.
But Caesars intends to try to recover the money, although Garruto added he wasn't sure they were under any legal obligation.
"We are going to contact some of the patrons who may have benefited a great deal and see if we can effect a recovery," he said. Some 24 of the gamblers won't be hard to find, because they used their casino player cards.

this dumb broad racing her husband has probably lost thousands at the casino and she does the "right thing" by alerting casino employees. Screw that...casinos rape you every chance they get, she should've got some back!

Not to this extent, but you would be astonished how often something similar occurs in VEGAS, be it like the scenario above to a lesser degree, with overpayers(machines spitting out more coins than is registered on the machine), and other various malfunctions.

All sorts of different faults can occur with slots/video poker and the casino rats of the casino usually do not take very long to spot them and take advantage of them.

As one SMALL example, I once played a video poker machine at Harrahs(owns the IP) in which they actually add the wrong paytable set-up on a particular dueces wild machine making it a very lucrative 105%+ plus return, which was way better than the standard 100.72% or less usually offered. The great thing was is that it took well over a two months for them to realize it.........this after various pros took turns on it literally 24/7.

Wow are people frickin stupid or what? Gee lets see I have a cash cow machine here, let me put in my players card and THEN take the casinos money. If these people were bank robbers would they be sure to leave a business card in the jar in hopes of winning a free lunch too???

Needless to say the tech who put this machine in will be looking for employment in another industry soon. Those guys work under the constant threat of getting fired and they aren't exactly well paid either.

Fish, are you serious? I had a similar situation arise a few years back at a local casino. It would pay out 20 credits more, than cashed out. It was only a 25c machine, but it was a nice find.

I worked on that bad boy for a few weeks before they finally caught on. The empty hoppers were a sign, none the less:dancefool .

These casinos will do everything in their power to drain every dollar from a compulsive gambler with mailers, rooms, food, drinks, etc.....and you call this unethical???? I call it getting fucking even.

I know some states have laws against malfunction machines, and I think Vegas is exlcluded. I also had a Pick'em machine a couple years back paying 5 credits more on flushes and straights.......yea, let me report that:nopityA:

Definately not perfect, have made many poor decisions, but as far as ethics are concerned I am strong there, and if that is something to criticize then by all means go for it. For the record, I do not stalk anyone, and am certainly not gay.

The only unethical thing here was not taking the casino for every penny they have...

Disagree big time. If one knows what the payouts are suppossed to be, knows what they currently are, and abuses it, it is basically the same as stealing in my view.

Vegas serving free booze as a way of "loosening" up the player isn't unethical??
